    Mike Baird, a member of the Trimble County High school Class of 2011, helped the Union College cycling team win the school’s second National Championship in program history last month, finishing first as a team in the 2011 NCCA Division II Nationals held in Angel Fire, N.M.

    LEXINGTON – For the second straight season, the University of Kentucky women’s basketball team was picked to finish second in the Southeastern Conference in a voting of the 12 league coaches, as announced by the league office Tuesday.

    Trimble County High School’s cross country team enjoyed an excellent showing at the Kentucky High School Athletic Association Class 1A Region 5 Cross County Championship Saturday. The event was held on the campus of Lexington Christian Academy in Lexington.

    Trimble took first place in the boys’ competition with a score of 65 in the 5K run, out-pointing Sayre (68), Bracken County (84), Burgin (84), Danville (97), Owen County (132) and Lexington Christian (139).

    The Trimble County Raiders played their last football game of the season Friday night at Kentucky Country Day School in Louisville, resulting in a disappointing 53-0 loss for Trimble.

    Despite KCD’s financial advantages as a private school, Head Coach William Blair encouraged the Raiders before they arrived on the field: “This game is for the most competitive people,” said Blair.

    LEXINGTON – The University of Kentucky men’s basketball team was picked by the media to win its 45th Southeastern Conference championship this season as announced by the SEC on Monday.

    Each SEC school selected media members that cover their team and additional media from across the nation were selected by the conference office to form the voting panel.

    The Trimble County High School cross country team traveled to New Castle Saturday to compete in the Henry County Renaissance Run.

    Trimble’s girls took third place overall of five teams. Top five Trimble runners were: Kylie Wilberding, fifth with a time of 21:04.89; Erin Gonterman, 12th in 21:39.52; Kirsten Baird, 13th in 21:41.93; Morgan Chappell, 24th in 22:59.28; and Emily Tingle, 27th in 23:41.02. There were 37 girls competing.

    The Carroll County Panthers emerged victorious after Friday’s football game against the Trimble County Raiders, finishing the game with a score of 26 to 41. Widely known as archrivals, the Oct. 21 game was greatly anticipated by Raider and Panther fans alike.
