  • UK announces fall Dean’s List

    University of Kentucky Dean’s List for the fall 2016 semester includes Trimble County residents, Jessica Lindsie Ball, a senior majoring in Chemical Engineering; Richelle Marie Cassell, a senior majoring in Biology; Katelyne S. Temple, a senior majoring in Elementary Education; Jordan Thomas Tingle, a junior majoring in Pre-Public Health; and Colyn Guyn True, a senior majoring in Human Nutrition.

  • Undergraduate achievements announced at Eastern Ky. Univ.

    Eastern Kentucky University has announced Sidney Alis Gossom, a sophomore, Nicholas Scott Clifford, a sophomore, Mae Tanya Cifranik, a junior, and Alex  Jeremiah Dixon, a freshman, all of Trimble County,  have been named to the President’s List of honors for the fall 2016 semester. The President’s List was established by the University to recognize outstanding academic achievement. It is bestowed upon full-time undergraduate students who attain a perfect 4.0 grade point average for a semester.

    “As we sat beside my 5-month-old son’s hospital bed, we begged God for a miracle. Smith had been fighting 24 hours for his life but, really, he had fought since birth. Smith was born with a rare liver disease called Biliary Atresia. The bile ducts in his liver were not formed correctly. Bile was trapped and quickly caused cirrhosis to his liver,” explains Smith Webster’s mom, Holly from Jefferson County.

  • Milton resident Sara Strickland new circulation coordinator for newspapers

    After working as a customer service and sales rep, Sara Strickland was looking for a career change. She found it at Landmark Community Newspapers, becoming the circulation coordinator for The Trimble Banner and for The News-Democrat, Carrollton’s weekly newspaper.

  • Meet new school board member William Robertson

    New school board member William Robertson was sworn in by Finance Officer Phillip Harmon at the January 4th regular Trimble County School Board meeting. Robertson joins the school board with a history of diverse positions as an electrician in the motor vehicle manufacturing industry.
    In February of 2002 William began his career as a production worker for Square D Company in Lexington, Kentucky. This facility manufactured electrical equipment.  

  • Kentucky State Police encourages drivers to prepare for winter driving

    FRANKFORT  – With the possibility of wintery weather moving into the state Thursday, the Kentucky State Police is cautioning motorists to be prepared for hazardous driving conditions.
    “Winter driving can present formidable challenges including sleet, snow, slick roads, freezing temperatures and reduced visibility,” KSP spokesman Trooper. Josh Brashears said in a statement. “It can be a deadly combination if you’re not prepared.”

  • Warning: Colder temperatures increase the risk for carbon monoxide poisoning

    As temperatures drop and the risk for carbon monoxide poisoning increases, Kentuckians are urged to be aware of the dangers of carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning due to improper use of heating or cooking devices.
    A press release from the Cabinet for Health and Family Services (CHFS) offers the following life-saving information:
    Items such as kerosene or propane gas stoves and ovens have been used as alternative heat sources indoors, sometimes with tragic results.
