  • The tradition of always being correct

    As the story goes, at a synagogue in Eastern Europe when the Shema (the prayer that starts out “Hear O Israel, the Lord is one…”) was recited each week, half the congregation stood with hands raised and the other half remained seated.

    Although it might not have been a problem for this congregation, it was because each half insisted that their way was the synagogue’s tradition and, therefore, the right way.

    So, each week the standers stood and yelled at the sitters to stand up and the sitters sat and yelled at the standers to sit down.

  • Horse Tale

    I have a horse named Biscuit. He’s a flashy lad with a mind of his own. He has a stripe down his back and stripes on his legs. He has a white star on his forehead and black tips on his ears. He’s even managed to sneak a bit of white below his striped, black legs.

  • New Rotary assistant governor visits Bedford

    The Rotary International organization is global in scope, with some 1.3 million members serving in more 160 countries. Rotary is divided into many Districts throughout, with two located in Kentucky. Bedford’s is District 6710 and is comprised of some 58 clubs with 2,700 members in central and western Kentucky. Bedford Rotary, like many rural clubs, is small with about 25 members.

    Kids can have fun and learn about science at 1 p.m. July 5. This week looks at explosive chemical reactions. The event will take place in the children’s department STEM room.

    Movie club

    Families can enjoy Despicable Me 3 and free popcorn and drinks at 10:30 a.m. July 6. The event is free and open to all ages. No registration is required.

    The Trimble County Hymn Sing will be at 7 p.m., Thursday, July 5, at Campbellsburg Baptist Church, 8320 Main St., in Campbellsburg.

    Milton Methodist VBS

    Milton United Methodist Church will have its Vacation Bible School from 6:30-8:30 p.m. July 8-13 for preschool children through sixth grade. Pre-registration will be 5-6 p.m. July 8 and a family picnic will be at 6:30 p.m. July 13. For more info, call Beth at 859-613-2238.
