  • This past week I got an email from someone who has emailed me before, always with thoughtful, thought-provoking comments.
    In this one he wrote, “Permit me to posit the following: Why not consider the word ‘Christian’ more as an adjective than a noun? That is, ‘I try to live a Christian life’ rather than tagging oneself with a label that could suggest a holier than thou attitude….”

  • October 16, 1986 (30 years ago)
    The Kentucky State Police have issued a warning that a rapist, responsible for the rape of a Trimble County woman Sept. 23, is on the loose. According to KSP Lieutenant Dan Davidson, police are confident they can bring the case to a successful conclusion. However, police are cautioning local women that the rapist is still on the loose and that in the meantime, every precaution should be taken.

    Saturday, Oct. 15
    Sligo Baptist Church, 65 North 42 Loop in Pendleton, will hold a Handshake & Pancake Breakfast, 8:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 15. Free. Everyone welcome.
    The Milton Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization will host their annual Fish Fry and Auction on Saturday, Oct. 15. The Fish Fry will begin at 11:00 a.m. and continue through 6:00 p.m.

  • Halloween is just around the corner. Kids are planning their costumes; mine frequently decided on something which was impossible to find or required sewing. I don’t do sewing. Trust me, it’s not a good idea. Parties are in the works, and decorations are under construction.

  • Kentucky Extension Homemakers Association Week is Oct. 9-15, and the state’s more than 1,000 clubs are celebrating.
    The association is a volunteer organization that works with the Kentucky Cooperative Extension Service to help improve the quality of life for families and Kentucky communities through leadership development, service and education. The week recognizes and celebrates their contributions to their community and the state during the past year.

    The Trimble County Hymn Sing will be hosted by the Hickory Grove Methodist Church,  363 Morton Ridge Rd. in Bedford, 7 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 6. The public is invited.
