  • BY CRYSTAL CAUDILLO | The Trimble Banner

The Trimble County Board of Education was told Trimble County High School Principal Michael Slider had resigned during its regular meeting June 6 at the administrative office.

The board then discussed the possibility of only having one principal for the middle and high schools and decided to support a motion to consolidate the two schools.

  • Long gone are the days of companies offering monthly pensions to their retirees. While there are still some baby-boomers that have been grandfathered into these pension plans, most are left with only 401(k) plans. So, what’s the deal? Are matching contributions into a 401(k) plan better or worse than a company pension for the employee? Why does it appear that the younger generation is left out in the dark when it comes to a company pension? The fact is, depending on your specific company’s matching contributions, having a 401(k) might be better for you in the long run.

  • One of my favorite authors is Anne Lamott.

I don’t agree with her politics or her theology, but she loves Jesus with a raw, earthy, profound and honest love.

She’s a recovering alcoholic and is not shy about openly telling her story.

In her book “Traveling Mercies,” she writes about what she sarcastically calls her “beautiful moment of conversion.”

It was during the week after her abortion when she stayed home, smoked dope and got drunk.

  • Livestock shows are some of the most anticipated and recognized events at many county fairs. With area county fairs taking place or coming up soon, it’s important for parents to remember to set a good example for their children by exhibiting good sportsmanship during these popular events.

As a parent, your behavior is so important because you serve as major influencer and important role model for your children and for other young people. They will take note of how you act when faced with an adverse situation and may emulate your behavior.

  • My family is fortunate enough to live in an older home with a lot of character. A section of the home is more than 100 years old. Along with the house are four trees that are irreplaceable. All of them are at least 100 years old. They make me look like a youngster in comparison. In short, I love our home. I can’t imagine living anywhere else.
