Students from the Trimble County High School worked collectively under the direction of Bedford Mayor Todd Pollock, Bedford city commissioners and members of the Trimble County Historical Society’s Cemetery Preservation Committee on May 11 to continue the efforts of creating the Veterans Memorial Garden at the Bedford Cemetery. Five memorial headstones were placed to honor both Union and Confederate soldiers that were residents of Trimble County. This garden is an ongoing project that will later include unmarked or destroyed graves of Trimble County veterans from all war eras.

The Historical Society sincerely expresses their appreciation and gratitude to all those who participated in this event and the City of Bedford for making this possible.

The Trimble County Historical Society wishes to acknowledge their appreciation to the Trimble County High School personnel working on this project: Trimble County High School Principal Michael Slider, school staff Carla Goins and Richard Jynes; and students Jarod Ashcraft, Grayson Brown, Connor Butters, Kyle Gabbard, Colin Jennings, Shebi Lawson, Joseph McDowell, Courtney Richey-Webster, Alex Seward, Tucker Smith, Paris Steffen Jr., Chris Whitlow and Christian Wilberding.

Trimble County Historical Society Cemetery Preservation Committee members were Lew and Jo Popp, Kenny Green, Richard Bedwell and Bev Mahoney.

Donations are appreciated to complete the landscaping of the site for Memorial Day. We hope to have a dedication during Memorial Day weekend.
