Trimble’s Weston top runner in NCKC championship

Trimble County’s Eliza Weston was the individual conference winner in last week’s North Central Kentucky Conference Championship cross country meet. The seventh grader out-paced Williamstown runner Kasey Hill by 1.9 seconds over the 5K distance in the event held Tuesday, Sept. 29, at General Butler State Resort Park in Carrollton.
Overall, Trimble’s girls as a team scored 74 points and placed third behind Walton-Verona (32) and Owen County (56), and ahead of Williamstown (94) and Lloyd Memorial (96). Carroll County, Eminence and Gallatin County were also represented with individual runners but not enough for team scores.
Trimble’s runners, places and times were as follows: Eliza Weston, seventh grade, 1st, 23:22.1; Rachel Liter, seventh grade, 13th, 27:07.3; Shelby Papai, freshman, 14th, 27:15.7; Kirsten Baird, senior, 20th, 28:28.4; Tessa Chilton, junior, 34th, 25:01.9; and Hannah Congleton, freshman, 41st, 39:08.0.
Trimble scored 92 points to place fourth in the boys’ 5K behind Williamstown (46), Walton-Verona (53) and Lloyd Memorial (69). Owen County took fifth with 95 points. Carroll County, Eminence and Gallatin County were also represented with individual runners but not enough for team scores.
Trimble’s top runner, senior Brennan Kunkel, took fourth place overall with a time of 20:42.1. Other boys’ results for Trimble included: Johnathan Papai, senior, 13th, 21:46.8; Isaac Schwarz, freshman, 25th, 23:18.0; Quentin Huff, eighth grade, 30th, 23:51.8; Eli Moreland, senior, 31st, 23:59.4; and Mason Powell, seventh grade, 33rd, 24:22.1. A total of 51 individuals competed in the race.
The “Runnin’ Raiders” return to action Saturday, Oct. 17, in the LCA Invitational at the Kentucky Horse Park.
