Staff changes may not be ‘news’ but worth mentioning

Since March, readers may have noticed a shuffle in staffing at the The News-Democrat and The Trimble Banner.

Changes came about when Trimble Banner managing editor Lorrie Kinkade stepped down to pursue new ventures earlier this year. For a while, Brent Shanding, Landmark Community Newspapers Inc.’s roving editor, filled in at the Beford office. In April, News-Democrat editor Phyllis McLaughlin stepped in and took over the editor’s job there. Additionally, she has continued to manage the special sections produced by the two newspapers each month.

In her absence at Carrollton, I have added the duties of editor of The News-Democrat to my responsibilities as publisher and advertising manager of both papers

During this time, Dave Taylor, a Trimble County native who now lives in Lexington, Ind., joined the News-Democrat staff as a reporter. In addition to covering news and sports in Carroll County, Dave also assists with coverage in Trimble.

Dave’s newspaper background includes several years as Kentucky editor at The Madison Courier in Madison, covering news and sports in Trimble and Carroll counties. Previously, he was news and program director at WORX and WVCM/WIKI radio stations in Madison, Ind. He also wrote a nationally syndicated column on powerboat motorsports and is the author of three books.

At this point, none of these changes is really “news.” But it’s time to formalize this working arrangement and let everyone know what each of our roles at these papers are, and who our readers should contact with news in either countiy.

Phyllis, who lives in Milton, is now the editor of The Trimble Banner and will continue in her role as special sections editor for both papers. These include our quarterly Health View magazine, Discover Carroll County, the Trimble County Guide, Destinations and Diversions, sports guides, and our graduation sections and others highlighting special events in our communities.

To reach Phyllis with news pertinent to The Trimble Banner, call her at (502) 255-3205 or send e-mail to her at editor@mytrimblenews.com.

In Carroll County, please contact me with news and other information pertinent to The News-Democrat. I can be reached by phone at (502) 732-4261 or by e-mail at jmoore@mytrimblenews.com.

Dave will continue in his role as staff writer based in Carrollton, covering Carroll County news and sports, and occasionally filling in to assist with coverage in Trimble County. He can be reached at (502) 732-4261 or by e-mail at dtaylor@mytrimblenews.com.

Dave, of course, joins Sharon Graves, who has covered news and sports in Carroll County for nearly two years. Our team here will continue to provide the best and most in-depth coverage of Carroll County, and I know that Phyllis intends to do the same for our readers in Trimble County.

Jeff Moore is editor of The News-Democrat and publisher of the News-Democrat, Trimble Banner and River City Trading Post.
