Long Odds

-A A +A

Our fair Commonwealth is gearing up for one of my favorite events: the Run for the Roses! I am a lifelong lover of horses so horse racing was a natural extension of this love. I was fortunate to live with my family on a racing farm several years ago. I was paid to feed the horses at 5 a.m. so they would have fuel in the tank for their morning works. I also had the privilege of ponying the runners to the track. This is when the outrider (me!) leads the horse to the track aboard the “pony” which is no pony! Ours was an even- tempered Quarter horse named Cisco.
