Over 300 runners from 40 teams competed in each race making last weekend’s Kentucky State Middle and Elementary State Cross Country Championships worth seeing.

The Runnin’ Raiders held their own as they competed in the 6th Grade and Under State Girls and Boys Championship, Middle School Boys State race, and Middle School Open Girls State race.

Lifetime memories were cemented Friday night for four cheerleaders, 10 band members and 14 football players – all seniors, participating in the last game of the season at Carroll County High School’s Panther Field.

Some of these students have lived their entire lives in Carroll County; some moved here with their families.

Their parents have supported them as students, athletes and performers, and all shed tears after the game against with Kentucky Country Day. A game that turned out to be a victory for the Panthers, by the way.

The Panthers had two emotional reasons for wanting a win Friday, Oct. 31: First, this was the final  home football game of the year; second, it was senior night.

The team didn’t let anyone down.

In the stat book, Kentucky Country Day came to Panther Field looking better  than the Panthers in many areas – except one, the win/loss column. KCD left the field with another loss.

The DeSales Colts of Louisville came into Carroll County High School’s Panther Stadium on Friday night with an impressive record, and escaped with a win.

“I’m not making excuses, but I’m giving the boys a compliment,” Head Coach Mike Weedman said after the game. “We were without a lot of key players tonight, and we were still able to play the game that we did.”
