  • With 10 returning varsity...

    The Carroll County Lady Panthers are looking forward to a new season, with 10 of 12 varsity players returning and experience galore in post-season play.

    The girls team ended the 2007-08 season as North Central Kentucky Conference champions and runner up in the 31st District tournament.

    “Our main loss from last season is point-guard Amber Girdy, a member of the All 8th Region team,” Head Coach Randy Mefford in an interview last week. “She averaged 11 points per game, three assists and three steals.”

  • Lady Panthers team, coaches host...

    The coaching staff and players of the Lady Panthers will join junior Panther coaches for a girls junior Panther basketball clinic from 4-7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 7 at Carroll County High School.

    The clinic for teams in first through fourth grades is 4 to 5:30 p.m. The clinic for teams in grades five and six is 5:30 until 7 p.m.

    The clinic will focus on the fundamental skills of the game to help the girls become better players.

  • Debuting as head coach for boys...

    The new head coach of the Carroll County High School Panthers boys basketball team predicts an entertaining season, and invites the community to come watch.

    “We will play multiple offenses and multiple defenses,” said Carroll Yager, former district superintendent. Yager retired in June and was hired this summer to coach the team.

    “We will do some pressing, man-to-man half-court, and we’re going to do a variety of zones,” Yager said. It’s really going to dictate who we are playing as to how we want to best adapt to what they do.

  • Championship pits Bengals...

    The championship of the Trimble County Flag Football League was held Nov. 1, with the Bengals facing the Cowboys.

    The Bengals first play from the line of scrimmage had Duncan Ralston rumble for 10 yards, followed by a nice 25-yard gain by Grant Weaver. Quarterback Dane Lacefield punched it in from the 5 yard line for the first score of the game. Weaver then scampered in for the extra point to make it 7-0 Bengals.

    The Cowboys then got their first shot at a touchdown.

  • Football Raiders fall in playoff...

    The Trimble County Raider football squad has been on display all year long, primarily because of their unique A-11 offense. The Raiders technique has been publicized in the New York Times, the Lexington Herald, the San Fransisco Chronicle and the Louisville Courier Journal, among others.

  • Lady Raiders run to sixth place...

    Coming off their fifth consecutive regional championship, the Trimble County girls cross country team found a competitive state field waiting on them in Lexington last weekend.

    Probably the most competitive Kentucky Girls Class “A” State race in the past decade occurred at the Kentucky Horse Park Saturday, Nov. 15. Only 14 points separated third place from ninth in the state meet and just four 4 points kept the sixth place Lady Raiders from finishing third overall.

  • Runnin’ Raiders...

    Expected to place seventh in the state meet, the Trimble County Cross Country boys team surprised the state field last weekend by placing fourth overall. The fourth place finish is the highest placing in school history, outside of the 1954 State Championship.

    The rain, sleet, wind and cold weather didn’t slow the Raiders boys down as they placed five guys under the 18:01 mark and finishing with a team average of 17:40, the fastest Trimble County team in school history.

  • Panthers lose their 'groove...

    The Carroll County Panther football season came to an end Friday night, Nov. 7, on the Green Devils’ field in Dayton, Ky.

    The Panthers, losing 50-20, seemed to be just a step behind the Green Devils the whole game.

    It was a team the Panthers beat last year, and one that has been losing to everyone else this year, sporting a 1-8 record until the Panthers showed up.

    The Panthers, went 5 and 5 on the season and need to now get ready for post season play.

  • Busy weekend for Collins

    D’Anthony Collins was the lone Carroll County cross-country runner to qualify for the state championship meet, set for Saturday at Lexington’s Kentucky Horse Park.

    Collins turned in a blistering time of 18:15 for the 3.1-mile race that saw him cross the finish line 10th ahead of 41 other runners on Nov. 8  during the Class A Region 5 meet at Admiral Stadium in Danville.

  • Football Raiders claw past...

    The Raiders charged onto the field last week ready to end the regular season with a win over the Bearcats of Walton-Verona.

    And that is exactly what they did in front of a hometown crowd on Trimble County’s senior night.

    The Trimble County High School Raiders went out with a bang Friday night to close the regular season with a 4-6 record.
