  • CCHS teams earn top state ratings

    The Kentucky High School Athletic Association released its top 15 state basketball rankings on Friday, and Carroll County High School’s boys and girls teams each were recognized for their achievements in the sport.

    The Lady Panthers ranked eighth in the state for team defense leaders.

    Using statistics submitted by the individual schools throughout the season for a minimum of seven games, rankings are calculated by the number of points allowed per game.

    The Lady Panthers have allowed an average of 41.2 points per game.

  • Lady Raiders fall hard

    The Lady Raiders traveled to Owen County High School Jan. 14 to participate in the 8th Region Class A tournament. The trip home, however was a tough one as the girls fell 32-50.

  • Thrilling victories lead CCHS to...

    The Lady Panthers learned the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat following competition in the Class A tournament this weekend in Owen County.

    During the four-night tournament, the girls varsity basketball team had some incredible highs, defeating Williamstown in an absolute thriller in the opening game Wednesday, Jan. 14. But they lost a heartbreaker to Gallatin County in the final game, with just three-tenths of a second left on the clock.

    Head Coach Randy Mefford described the win over Williamstown as the most exciting game he’s ever been involved in.

  • Losing streak ends

    The drought is finally over.

    After starting the season 5-4, the Raiders went on a five game losing streak that ended at home Jan. 12 when the team defeated Gallatin County 63-55.

    Monday night, the Raiders finally played like a team.

  • Panthers spoil Wildcats&...

    The Panthers were the spoilers of the Gallatin County High School homecoming festivities, beating the home team by 10 points in an intense battle.

    The Panthers came out determined to end their four-game losing streak, and took it to the Wildcats on every possession. The Wildcats did not score until the first period was half over; the quarter ended with the Panthers on top, 17-6.

    The Wildcats played their normal tough defense, pushing hard, playing hard, never to be dismissed as anything less than formidable.

  • Raiders fail as dragon slayers

    Hitting the hardwood at South Oldham High School Saturday, Jan. 10, the senior heavy Trimble County Raider squad hoped this would be the night to turn things around.

    A win against the Dragons would have broken the team’s five-game losing streak and guaranteed the boys one of the top two seeds in next month’s district tourney.

  • Girls win red-hot game by 4

    It was frigid outside, but red-hot inside the Gallatin County gym Thursday, Jan. 8, as the Lady Panthers took one from the border rival Lady Wildcats in regulation play.

    During the contest, three Lady Panthers fouled out, and both teams went for 37 free throws combined in the fourth quarter alone.

    Playing a smart, smothering defense, the Lady Panthers also play unselfish team ball. That characteristic was certainly true in this game.

  • Win-win evening for Panthers,...

    The Owen County Rebels ventured into the Panther’s den on Saturday night for a four-game set between the boys and girl’s teams and split the bill, with Carroll County coming away with a win in the boys junior varsity and the girls varsity games.

    A large crowd, nearly filling both sides of the gym, was entertained with a night of great basketball. And each side went home with one JV and one varsity win.

  • Carroll County loses...

    The Carroll County Panthers headed to Campbellsville to play in the Coca Cola/Campbellsville University Holiday Classic over the Christmas break and lost a heartbreaker in the final game in overtime.

    The three game tournament began Dec. 28 when the Panthers met the Cougars of Morgan County, Ky., and took a 33-26 lead into the locker room at half time.

  • Queen of Bluegrass tourney crown...

    The Carroll County Lady Panthers traveled to East Carter High School in Grayson, Ky., to participate in the Queen of the Bluegrass tournament, but couldn’t bring home the crown.

    East Carter’s Lady Radiers  hosted their first-class eight-team tournament Dec. 26-28.  

    “We would like to have finished better than fourth place, but the fact is we competed well in every game and we play in these tournaments to prepare us for play in the Class A and our district tournament,” said Randy Mefford, Lady Panthers’ head coach.
