  • Blue Lightning strikes at home

    The Villa Madonna Blue Lightning came into town Tuesday, Feb. 17, and handed the Lady Panthers a second loss on their home court.

    The 46-27 final score left little doubt that the Blue Lightning had the upper hand in the contest, as they chalked up their 19th win for the season.

    Though the Lady Panthers clinched the North Central Kentucky Conference title Feb. 14, the girls team played flat against Villa Madonna. Their usual smothering defense was a no-show; their shooting was markedly off.

  • Devine named NCKC player of week

    Lady Panther Hannah Devine recently was named North Central Kentucky Conference player of the week.

    The Carroll County High School freshman scored 40 points and grabbed 16 rebounds during varsity games with Oldham County and Williamstown that week, Head Coach Randy Mefford said.

    Devine also won the award as an eighth-grader.  She has been on the varsity squad since seventh grade, and teams in the eighth region are well aware of her skills.

    Mefford says Devine sits the bench during freshman games and encourages them, gets them water and is their cheerleader.

  • Young TCHS tennis teams...

    The Trimble County High School boys and girls tennis teams plan to stop at nothing to bring home success in the 2009 season.

    Along with losing two players to last year’s graduation, the teams have started this season with some unaccustomed indoor practice. The previously used courts, located at the Trimble County Park, were dismantled two months ago, yet construction of new courts at the park has not been completed.

    Despite the changes, however, coaches of the Raiders clubs have high hopes for a winning season.

  • Homecoming bittersweet for...

    The Lady Panthers could have been mistaken for the Pink Ladies of the musical “Grease,” donning pink jackets and headbands to promote breast cancer awareness during warm-ups prior to Saturday’s game against the Lady Demons of Williamstown.

    In addition to being Homecoming, the game was part of Coaches vs. Cancer, and $1 from every ticket sold went to benefit the American Cancer Society. The event raised a total of $1,025 for ACS.

    The girls varsity team wasn’t so charitable to the visiting Demons, though.

  • Panthers take down Raiders with...

    After a crushing defeat Saturday at Homecoming, the Panthers traveled to Trimble County High School on Monday, Feb. 16, and earned redemption.

    The team met Head Coach Carroll Yager’s challenge to step up and complete for the full 32 minutes of the ballgame against the Raiders.

    “This was a good overall win for us, and everybody that played contributed,” Yager said after the game.

    The Panthers held Raider top-scorer Aaron Law to only eight points, and two scoreless periods.

  • Lady Demons possessed the skills...

    Following the Raiders’ win over the visiting Williamstown boys team on homecoming night, the Lady Raiders couldn’t rise to the occasion and fell 49-62 to the Lady Demons.

    The Trimble girls took to the hardwood with excitement Saturday night, coming off a recent win against Henry County that garnered the team just their second win of the season.

  • Panther varsity mauls Eminence...

    The Eminence Warriors entered the Panthers’ den Friday night and were mauled by the varsity starters and reserves, leaving with a 65-34 loss.

    In the make-up game, rescheduled because of bad weather,  the Warriors struggled to put the ball in the hole all night, though they never gave up on the defensive end of the court.  

    The Panthers led the entire game, but to the Warriors’ credit, they kept it interesting.

    Casey Cable unsealed the Panther basket with a three-pointer in the opening minutes of the game, and the Panthers never looked back.

  • CCHS cheerleaders hosting &...

    The Carroll County High School cheerleaders are offering a PeeWee Cheer Camp for children 3 years old through fifth grade.

    The camp will meet from 4-6 p.m. Feb. 16-20 in the CCHS cafeteria Feb. 16-20. The campers will then perform at the Feb. 20 basketball game.

    Parents must register  children for the camp by  Feb. 13. Cost is $20 per child; late registration is $25 per child.

    Each child will receive instruction from the CCHS cheerleaders and participate in cheer, dance, sidelines, jumps, partner stunts and teambuilding activities.
