    The Trimble County Raiders were riding a four-game winning streak into the second round of the Silver Grove Coaches vs. Cancer Classic, following a first-round, 75-72 win over the host school Thursday night.

    The Raiders fronted 13-10 after a quarter of play and continued to hold a three-point (36-33) advantage at halftime. Trimble spread the margin to 57-44 after three quarters of play, but the Big Trains (yes, that’s the Silver Grove mascot) came chugging back to outscore Trimble 28-18 in the final eight minutes for the eventual three-point margin.

    Trimble County’s Lady Raiders had hoped to avenge a home court loss suffered at the hands of Oldham County in the 29th District Tournament Friday but although Trimble battled hard they fell short by a 65-57 score.

    The Trimble County Raiders split two games at home over the weekend, playing perennial powerhouse Oldham County close on Friday and surviving another close outing on Saturday against Western Hills. Trimble fell to Oldham by a score of 81-71 but held off a determined Western Hills team by a score of 67-62.

    Fans of the Trimble County high school boys’ basketball team will welcome the Raiders to the friendly confines of TCHS gymnasium for the first time this season when they entertain Oldham County Friday.

    The Raiders, 2-3 on the season, have faced five opponents on the road so far during the young 2012-13 basketball season. Trimble opened the season with a hard-fought loss at Carroll County on Nov. 29. Since we last went to press with last week’s edition of The Trimble Banner the Raiders have had a busy travel schedule.

  • Lady Raiders dismantle young...

    The Trimble County Lady Raiders went after visiting Switzerland County early and often in Thursday’s interstate basketball romp Thursday. The Lady Raiders jumped out to a 23-13 advantage after the first eight minutes of play and never looked back en route to a 62-40 victory.

    Trimble’s first quarter offensive display included three treys from junior forward Erin Gonterman and a fourth from junior point guard Paige Black.
