    The countdown has begun! Just a few more days and Jan Powell will be swimming, running, and bicycling her way to the finish line. On Sept. 25, 2016, in Chattanooga Tenn., she will begin the journey of 144.6 miles triathlon, entitled the Iron Man.

    DETROIT-- For J. Michael Kelly, Sunday’s UAW-GM Spirit of Detroit Hydrofest APBA Gold Cup was his third successive day of battling from behind. He had been racing hard while watching the two-time defending Gold Cup Champion Jimmy Shane lead the fleet in qualifying on Friday, watching the young local rookie favorite Andrew Tate win three heats on Saturday (one unlimited and two Grand Prix).

    Norton Sports Health’s Saturday Sports Injury Clinic is now open. The clinic, at the Norton Orthopaedic & Hand Center, 9880 Angies Way off Brownsboro Road in far eastern Jefferson County, treats athletes of all ages and sports for concussions, as well as ankle, hamstring, knee, shoulder and elbow injuries.

    The Trimble County High School football team traveled to Eminence Friday night for their season opener against the Warriors. Under the guidance of new Head Coach Mike Isley and company, the Raiders look to turn around the program and put the past behind them.

    In the game against the Warriors, the Raiders’ offense was able to move the ball down the field, but a combination of turnovers and penalties prevented them from crossing the goal line.
