  • Henry spoils Raiders’ Senior...

    The Trimble County Raiders closed out the home portion of the 2011-12 basketball regular season by honoring the team’s seven seniors on Valentine’s Day. One of the larger crowds to attend a home contest this season—including parents, family members, friends and fellow students—who were on hand to honor the seniors watched as the Raiders fought valiantly but unsuccessfully to erase a sizable deficit en route to a 65-51 loss at the hands of the visiting Henry County Wildcats.

  • Little League signups continue

    To ensure all children sign up that want to play, the Trimble County Little League will continue accepting applications through Saturday, Feb. 25. Parents may pick up applications at your child’s school, both Stop N’ Go stations and the Trimble County Public Library or print it off the league website at www.trimblecountysports.com. The league will have a booth during the youth league basketball games at Bedford Elementary Saturday.

  • Trimble tumbles twice at home

    The Trimble County Raiders fell to defeat in a pair of home contests of high school basketball last week. The Raiders “wilted under the pressure” against an extremely scrappy Gallatin County Wildcats team on Tuesday, according to Trimble Coach John Leep III, falling by a 74-37 score. Trimble returned to action Thursday against Whitefield Academy, a game Leep predicted beforehand would be “a tough challenge.” Whitefield, like Gallatin, took an early advantage and never looked back en route to a 64-50 win.

  • Trimble’s seniors celebrate...

    Despite a ragged start Trimble County’s Lady Raiders put together a great defensive effort to overcome the visiting Henry County Lady Wildcats Monday in a 57-32 rout on Senior Night.

    “The effort tonight I thought defensively is what made the difference in the game,” Trimble Coach Kerrie Stewart said after the game. “We started out a little sluggish, a little slow. It was a different lineup than what we’re familiar with.”

  • 29th District Tourney at TCHS...

    The Trimble County High School gymnasium will be a hotbed of activity next week as TCHS hosts the Kentucky High School Athletic Association’s 29th District Tournament for both girls’ and boys’ high school basketball. Trimble last hosted the event four years ago.

    The tournament begins at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21, with the girls’ match-up between South Oldham and North Oldham and continues with the boys’ opening round game between South Oldham and Trimble County, which is projected to start at 7:30 p.m.

  • Richard Petty makes local...

    The man known to all NASCAR fans at the King of NASCAR, Richard Petty, came to Belterra Casino Tuesday, Jan. 31 for a Tireside Chat, a question and answer session hosted by the Kentucky Speedway.

    Petty is a seven-time Sprint Cup Champion and won 200 races in his career. His father, Lee Petty, won the first Daytona 500 and his son Kyle also had a career in NASCAR. His grandson Adam also began a career in racing, but he died in a wreck in practice at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

  • Carroll County spoils Coach Leep...

    Carroll’s Dallas Gibson was too hot to handle for the visiting Trimble County Raiders. He used his repertoire of inside post moves, grabbed offensive rebounds for put-backs and hit 10-12 free throws for a 30-point, 17-rebound-performance, en route to a 67-55 Panther victory Tuesday, Jan. 31.

    “I was really proud of Dallas,” head coach Carroll Yager said. “… He just played really, really well, big difference for us for sure.”

  • Fifth grade Raiders top Pope...

    The Raiders 5th grade boys beat Pope John Saturday in the first round of the league tournament 23-13. David Duncan led the team with 12 points, Dane Lacefield 4, Logan Clifford, Evan Stevens, Duncan Ralston had 2 points each and Shane Mills had 1. Clifford led the team with 9 rebounds and Grant Weaver had 5.
