  • Courtney repeats as high jump...

    Trimble County’s Kelsie Courtney added another state championship to her high school track and field credits Saturday by claiming the Class A girls’ high jump title for the second year in a row.

    Several Trimble athletes qualified for the state competition, which was held at the Owsley Frazier Cardinal Park on the University of Louisville campus.

  • Raiders fall to N. Oldham

    The 2013 high school baseball season came to an end for the Trimble County Raiders on Monday with a 12-2 loss to North Oldham in the opening game of the 29th District Tournament at Bedford.

  • Raiders shine on Senior Night

    The Trimble County Raiders closed out the home schedule of their 2013 baseball campaign last Tuesday by giving Gallatin County an 11-1 shellacking in six innings on Senior Night. Following the game Coach Frank Ragland could find very little critical to say about his team’s performance.

    Alex Rand, a college athlete and junior Biology major at the University of Transylvania in Lexington, is blazing a trail as a cross country and track runner.

    During Alex’s freshman year she was chosen a Top 40 Freshman for her leadership skills on campus and was awarded the 110 Percent Award in track and Best Finish in a Race in cross country.

    The Trimble County Raiders scored a triumvirate of wins last week. Following Monday’s triumph over Walden (see last week’s Trimble Banner), the Raiders made quick work of Williamstown on Thursday and Beth Haven on Saturday. Saturday’s 58-40 win over Beth haven capped a week of Homecoming activities for the team.

    Trimble County’s 6th grade boys team traveled to Madison on Sunday to take on the Southwestern Rebels. Southwestern scored first and held a 2-0 lead. That was the last lead the Rebels had all day.

    South Oldham’s Lady Dragons gave the visiting Trimble County’s Lady Raiders a shellacking in the first quarter of Monday night’s game at Crestwood and rode to victory on the strength of that one quarter alone.

    Using tenacious defensive pressure to create steals and force rushed shots, South Oldham dismantled their guests quickly to race out to a 21-3 advantage after eight minutes of play. The Lady Dragons continued their scoring onslaught in the second quarter to increase the margin to 21 at halftime, leading 35-14.

    Trimble County’s sixth grade boys opened a round robin tournament in Madison this past weekend with a game against Greensburg, Ind. With a distinct height disadvantage the Raiders had trouble driving and getting shots in the lane.
