    SAN DIEGO--Jimmy Shane drove U-1 Miss HomeStreet Bank/Miss Madison to a convincing victory at the HomeStreet Bayfair Regatta for the Bill Muncey Cup on Mission Bay Sunday. He took the lead going into the first turn of the winner-take-all final heat and was never seriously challenged.

    Longtime fan favorite Steve David has stepped down as chairman of H1 Unlimited after two seasons at the helm. David is a retired champion driver who competed in Unlimited hydroplanes from 1988 through 2013. David served as driver for the Miss Madison Racing Team from 2001 until his retirement. During all of those years the team was sponsored by the Oberto Sausage Company.

  • Berea College honors Erin...

    Erin Gonterman of Berea College earned last week’s Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week honors. At the Centre Invitational, Erin finished third overall in the race with a time of 20:19 in the 5k. The Berea College Mountaineers finished first to capture the team title. Centre finished second, Asbury third and Kentucky State fourth in the meet. Gonterman, a junior, is a Trimble County High School graduate. Her parents are Mickey Gonterman and Betsy Gonterman.

    FRANKFORT, Ky. – A dove comes into your section of the field on opening day. You crouch behind a row of sunflowers and excitedly wait for the dove to come into range.
    The dove keeps coming and you jump up, shoulder your shotgun and fire, followed by another shot and then another, none of them threatening the bird. The dove keeps flying out of the field.
    The opening weekend of dove season can bring frustration to wingshooters as dove hunters, even highly experienced ones, start missing shots they normally make. The misses snowball and aggravation mounts.

    Trimble County’s “Runnin’ Raiders” were in action Saturday at the E.G. Plummer Invitational cross country meet at Danville. Trimble’s girls fielded enough runners to compile team scores in the event. The varsity girls placed seventh out of 11 teams, although 20 schools sent runners to compete. Trimble’s middle school girls placed third out of 10 teams.

    It was homecoming for the Trimble County High School Football Raiders last Friday night when they hosted the Bishop Brossart Mustangs. The early going of the game was rough for both teams. During the first minute and a half of play, there were two fumbles by each team. Unfortunately for the Raiders, the Mustangs settled down and went on to blow out the Raiders 31-0 before half time.

For the H1 Unlimited Hydroplane finale on Mission Bay this weekend, the digit ‘3’ is once again in play. The number three could play out two-ways this coming weekend at the HomeStreet Bank San Diego Bayfair Championship (Sept. 16-19).

    The Trimble County volleyball team won easily in its opening match at the 8th Region All ‘A’ Classic Saturday at Carroll County High School. The Lady Raiders defeated Gallatin County 2-0 (25-11, 25-12), to move on to the second round against the winner of Carroll County and Williamstown.
