  • Raiders set to open at home after vigorous road schedule

Fans of the Trimble County high school boys’ basketball team will welcome the Raiders to the friendly confines of TCHS gymnasium for the first time this season when they entertain Oldham County Friday.

The Raiders, 2-3 on the season, have faced five opponents on the road so far during the young 2012-13 basketball season. Trimble opened the season with a hard-fought loss at Carroll County on Nov. 29. Since we last went to press with last week’s edition of The Trimble Banner the Raiders have had a busy travel schedule.

  • Lady Raiders dismantle young Switz. County team

The Trimble County Lady Raiders went after visiting Switzerland County early and often in Thursday’s interstate basketball romp Thursday. The Lady Raiders jumped out to a 23-13 advantage after the first eight minutes of play and never looked back en route to a 62-40 victory.

Trimble’s first quarter offensive display included three treys from junior forward Erin Gonterman and a fourth from junior point guard Paige Black.

  • Sixth grade basketball wrapup

The Trimble County 6th grade boys competed against Jennings County on December 2nd. The Raiders played a hard fought game that went into double overtime, with Jennings County pulling out the 35-32 win. Dane Lacefield led all scorers with 12 points, Evan Stevens 11, Logan Clifford 4, David Duncan and Shane Mills 2 and Andrew Edmondson 1 point and 6 rebounds.

  • Raiders fall in classic border battle with Carroll County

    The Trimble Banner

The gym was rocking Thursday night for what felt more like a playoff game than the second game of the season. But that’s what is to be expected when two border rivals like Carroll and Trimble collide.

The Panthers dominated on the inside, out-rebounding the Raiders 33-21 and shooting 43 percent from two-point range, while the Raiders drained 12 threes from the outside. But it was Carroll’s pressure defense that gave them a plus 11-turnover margin and secured them a 67-56 home win.

  • Lady Raiders avenge last year’s OT loss at Carroll, 55-33

Looking to avenge a two-point overtime road loss last season, the Lady Raiders took care of business on the road Friday against the rival Lady Panthers, winning 55-33. “We were ready for that, especially with what happened to us over here last year,” head coach Kerrie Stewart said. “We were pleased to see that we came out and played with some intensity.”

    Special to The Trimble Banner

I am very excited about the 2013 season. This year’s players have good basketball instincts, they like to play hard and fast.

  • Trimble topped by Gallatin, 65-58

A very young group of Trimble County Lady Raiders weathered an onslaught of long-range guns Monday night and threw a scare into visiting Gallatin County as the 2012-13 high school basketball season got underway. Trailing by 11 at halftime, Trimble roared back to pull within a pair of points several times in the second half before falling by a 65-58 final score.

While Gallatin’s long-range artillery misfired most of the night – the Lady Cats were only one of 21 shots from downtown – the game within the arc made the difference.
