Forfeit costs boys at Collins High School

On Tuesday, April 12, the Trimble County High School boys’ tennis team was defeated by Collins High School by a match score, 2-3.

In No. 1 singles action Trimble’s Nick Kleinhenz was defeated by John Oakley, 4-6, 5-7. Trimble’s No. 2 singles player, Dylan Stethan, won against Sam Rathke, 6-1, 6-3. Trimble forfeited the number 3 singles.

In No. 1 doubles play Trimble County’s Damon Copeland and Reese True defeated Collins’ Luke Noel and Derek Stivers, 6-0, 6-0

The Trimble County Raiders will host the Carroll County Panthers in the 8th Region Class A Championship game Tuesday, April 19, at 5:30 p.m.

Trimble advanced to the final after wins over Walton-Verona and Gallatin County. Carroll County defeated Williamstown and Owen County to get to the title game. Both teams played semifinal games on Sunday after heavy rain washed out Saturday’s action. Carroll and Owen had completed two innings of play when the storm hit.

Records set at Shelby

Trimble County’s track team had a “very impressive night” in the March 29 Shelby County All-Comers Meet in Shelbyville, according to Coach Jeff Vincent. New school records were set by Olivia Cooley in the Long Jump and Kelsie Courtney in the High Jump.

Team members registered 19 personal best performances, claimed four first place finishes and scored 35 top eight finishes.

Trimble County Coach Walter McHargue lamented that his team couldn’t hold border rival Carroll County after the Lady Raiders let a three-run advantage evaporate and fell 8-7 in Carrollton Friday.

Carroll lost to Trimble three times last year, twice during the regular season and during the All-A tournament, by a combined run total of 24-5. 

Trimble opened the game with a 1-0 lead in the first inning, but Carroll roared out of the gate in the bottom of the third to take a 4-1 lead.
