EDITOR’S NOTE: The following preview of the Trimble County High School girls’ basketball season was compiled from a series of Head Coach Kerrie Stewart’s answers to a list of emailed questions regarding the upcoming season. The Trimble County Lady Raiders opened the 2012-13 season at home against Gallatin County Monday night.

I am very excited about the 2013 season. This year’s players have good basketball instincts, they like to play hard and fast.

  • Trimble topped by Gallatin, 65-58

A very young group of Trimble County Lady Raiders weathered an onslaught of long-range guns Monday night and threw a scare into visiting Gallatin County as the 2012-13 high school basketball season got underway. Trailing by 11 at halftime, Trimble roared back to pull within a pair of points several times in the second half before falling by a 65-58 final score.

While Gallatin’s long-range artillery misfired most of the night – the Lady Cats were only one of 21 shots from downtown – the game within the arc made the difference.

  • 6th grade Raiders open with win

The 2012-2013 season got underway for the 6th grade Trimble County boys in a border war with Carroll County. The Raiders started where they left off last year with a big win 33-12. A balanced scoring attack and some excellent rebounding led Trimble to the easy win. Scoring leaders were Dane Lacefield, Shane Mills and David Duncan with 6 points each, Logan Clifford and Evan Stevens with 5 points, Grant Weaver and Andrew Edmondson with 2 points and Duncan Ralston with 1 point. Ben Stevens had 3 rebounds and 2 steals.

    Special to The Trimble Banner

Against a cold, rainy backdrop, Trimble County High School closed its 2012 football season with a 49-0 loss to Kentucky Country Day. The KCD Bearcats charged into the first quarter with three touchdowns, bringing the score to 22-0 by the end of the first half, despite a resurgent drive by the Raiders. The Bearcats continued their scoring streak throughout the first half, resting at halftime with a score of 43-0. Several of KCD’s scores came after missed tackles by the Raider defense.
