Trimble County’s Lady Raiders jumped out to an early 10-4 lead early in Monday’s game with Shelby County and never looked back on their way to a 52-44 defeat of the Lady Rockets in what Trimble Coach Kerrie Stewart called “a big win for us.”

While holding a 35-24 advantage late in the third quarter the Lady Raiders weathered a storm over the next six minutes of play at Shelby pulled within one, at 42-41, with 3:54 remaining in the game.

The loss of Carroll County’s Top Gun early in the second quarter contributed to a dismal evening for the Lady Panthers en route to a 53-29 win for Trimble County at Bedford Friday.

Carroll senior Hannah Devine suffered the injury while driving the free throw lane to the basket. Devine suddenly crumpled with a knee injury and left the game with about six-and-a-half minutes remaining in the first half. Devine attempted to return to the game with 4:10 remaining in the half but the pain was too severe to continue.

Many of the faces on the floor will be familiar. Most of those on the sidelines will be new. This year’s Raiders are pumped and ready to spring into the “Leep Era” of Trimble County basketball.

John Leep III has replaced Bob Lauster at the helm of the boys’ basketball program. While retaining freshman coach Joe Perkinson from the Lauster program, Leep has brought a new bench of assistants from Carroll County, his alma mater.
