  • Wrestlers earn trophies
    Two wrestling styles, Greco and Freestyle and two different days earn some local boys trophies and ribbons. Before a crowd of approximately 200, Bryce Turner, 7, son of Chris Turner, Bedford and Devin Turner, Salem, Ind., finished 1st in the Bantam Division of the Club Madison Greco Wrestling Tournament held on Friday, April 8, 2011 at the Madison Consolidated High School in Madison, Ind. Brody Cull, 7, son of Daniel and Christy Cull, Bedford finished 2nd in the Bantam Division.

  • Wrestling club active in area events
    Trimble County youth have been training at TNT Wrestling Club in Milton. Some attended and participated in the Charlestown Freestyle Wrestling Tournament in Charlestown, Ind. on March 26. Bryce Turner, 7, son of Chris Turner, Bedford and Devin Turner, Salem, Ind. finished 2nd in the Bantam weight division; Bryden Taylor, 5, son of Brent and Lindsey Taylor, Bedford, finished 2nd in the PeeWee division; and Brody Cull, 7, son of Daniel and Christy Cull, Bedford, finished 4th in the Bantam division.
  • Fourth-grade Raiders win championship
    The Trimble County fourth-grade boys youth league team took the championship title in tournament play recently at Southwestern Elementary in Hanover, Ind. The boys beat Pope John, 31-12, in the opening game; Henry County in the semi-finals, 27-13; and St. Mary’s in the championship game, 30-22. In that final game, the young Raiders were out to avenge a loss to St. Marys from the first game of the season. St. Mary’s came out with some sharp shooting and jumped out to an early 12-4 lead.
  • Kunselman places 10th in national fencing competition
    Logan Kunselman, 14, of Bedford, Ky., placed 10th overall in the 14-year-old category at a national fencing competition in Louisville. Kunselman and Liam Thomas, his teammate on the Madison Blades Fencers squad, both competed last weekend at the regional Super Youth Cicuit competition for fencers 14 and younger from 27 states. About 170 young athletes competed in the event. Fencing his best bouts ever, Kunselman finished in first place of all Kentucky men.

  • New wrestling club offers opportunities to local kids
    What started as John Turner teaching his godson, Bryce Turner, how to wrestle has grown into a new business venture in Trimble County. With help from his wife, Suzy Sachleben Turner and Bryce’s dad, Chris Turner, John started a wrestling club for Trimble kids, ages 4 to fourth-grade in a converted garage behind his home on Hubbard Lane, Bedford.  The club, now two years old, drew about 20 boys to the Turners’ eight-week Punishment Academy Wrestling Camp that started in the summer.
