  • River walk needed to make downtown...

    Potential. Ask just about anyone what they think about downtown Carrollton and you will eventually hear talk about the potential they see in reviving the once bustling business district.

    Situated right on the confluence of the Ohio and Kentucky rivers, downtown Carrollton is at first glance a quaint and attractive area with the historic look of a river town from the past. Many buildings have undergone restoration work to restore the Victorian facades that make it so special.

    But a closer look reveals the challenges that face efforts to bring new life to downtown.

    At this time I would like to thank everyone who made this fund raising event possible and a huge success. Without all the bikes and their riders and all the individuals and businesses who donated door prizes and their time, this couldn’t have happened. We are delighted with the attendance of all who showed up.

    There are so many people and businesses to thank we are not going to do that right now for fear we will leave someone out. We plan to distribute certificates, like last year, to anyone who donated or helped.

    Crews of volunteers set out Saturday morning to make repairs to homes of local folks who find themselves “in tough spots” as part of the fourth annual Project Comfort.

    I would like to take this opportunity to thank the beautiful young ladies that represented Carroll County last weekend in the state pageants that were held at The Crown Plaza hotel in Louisville.

    Representing our Pre-Teen Division for the State Competition was Kacie Dermon. Kacie placed in the top 17 category out of an astounding 72 girls. Kacie is the 11-year-old daughter of Todd and Tina Dermon, residing in Carrollton.

    I know them because my work has brought me into this town so much of these years and I’ve spent literally thousands of hours experiencing this place called “Carrollton.”  I know these people and have seen what they do.

    I just want to say thanks to all the people who organized the English School Reunion. We all had a good time. I met people I hadn’t seen in 50 or 60 years. It was great to meet and talk about the old times.

    I am sorry for the ones who knew about the reunion but did not show up. They missed a great time.

    It was well worth the drive from South Carolina to attend. Again I say many thanks to all who helped organize this reunion.

    The Carroll County Tobacco Festival Committee would like to thank the entire community for helping make the 2009 festival a success.  A special thanks goes to the Carroll County Fiscal Court, the City of Carrollton and City Council, Carrollton Utilities, the Carroll County Sheriffs Office, the Carrollton Police Department and Arctic Cat/Paul’s Tire.

     A lot of work went into building the floats and other entries in the parade. This parade is enjoyed by a huge number of people as you see along the parade route.

    On Sept. 17, the Carroll County Chamber of Commerce and Carroll County Community Development Corp. partnered in hosting its second annual Business Celebration Day.  

    The event was free to the public and showcased about 40 chamber members.   Food was served, inflatables were available for children, and a fashion show was hosted by both Carrollton Wal-Mart and VF Outlet. The theme this year was a Think Local, Buy Local Campaign, and all members received a Buy Local Window Cling to display in their businesses.

    This letter is to sound off about this little town called Carrollton. I have only been here a short time, but Carrollton has already taught me that if you don’t have a title, high status, or lots of money, then you are a nobody.

    No one around here has any respect for their neighbors. It just seems like you can do whatever you want to terrorize your fellow man.
