     A large group of people, about 60, gathered at the Trimble County Public Library last Tuesday as the library board met to decide whether or not the proposed November 15th closing of the library would be permanent or temporary. Many suggestions were made on how to keep the library operating until tax money came in. The final comment before adjournment was an invitation to attend Thursday’s fiscal court meeting and learn what they could do to help.

    Trimble County Sheriff Howard Long is still investigating the plane crash of a Cessna 182 into the Ohio River last July 4.

    The Milton Town Board received a complete set of plans and Joe Ballard, from the construction-engineering firm, said that a copy of the plans had been sent to the state for approval and any revisions that would be deemed necessary. If revisions were not needed, the target date for letting out the contract for construction of the system would be six months.

     Trimble County received $20,000 from KIPDA, earmarked for the county’s road department and to be used for the purchase of two trucks.

    Trimble County High School’s Football Homecoming will be tomorrow night. There will be a parade at 5:30 with several units participating. The Band Boosters will be sponsoring a chili supper beginning around 5.

    Insurance rates go down as Fire Department ratings go up. Milton Fire Dept. just passed an inspection and their rating went from class nine to a class Ten. This happens when a department adds equipment, puts in fire hydrants and learns how much water they can deliver.

     Fiscal Court met Thursday morning at a special meeting to approve the issue of bonds in the amount of $50,000,000 for the LG&E company’s Trimble County Generating Station at Wise’s Landing. The money is to be used in the completion of the pollution control facilities there.

    The Bedford Town Board met Monday night and presented a proposal to annex the area near Bedford called Bedford Commons. The six-acre tract off Cutshaw Lane is the site of the HUD backed project.

    We live in disposable days: get it, use it, throw it away. With eyes glued to screens all day, we fail to see life as it is and was, beyond the digital world. We miss meaningful lessons others may leave behind. Unseen, these bits of history disappear without a trace.

    Trimble County Superintendent, Dr. Bill Stout hand carried a proposal to the State Board of Education in Frankfort, Tuesday. The proposal outlines the local board’s plans to eliminate the deficit in their 1981-1982 budget.

    The Milton Town Board met and it was announced that the Milton Fire Department had passed its inspection by the Insurance Services Office of Kentucky. The new rating will enable Milton residents within a five-mile radius by road to have their homeowners insurance premiums reduced.

     Thursday’s storm broke off trees, flattened tobacco in the fields and demolished a tobacco barn on the Allen Willis farm on Pecks Pike.

    Complaints made by citizens concerning the sewer work, in particular the settling of dust; the noise and drainage after excavations were done.

    Marlena Jean Smith, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Smith is now home. Marlena was born July 30, but weighed only 3 lbs. and 14 ounces. Now at 5 lbs. she is a hefty enough to leave the hospital.

  • Editor’s Note: Linda Webster approached me two weeks ago inquiring of my interest in a news tip. She completed this story on Friday, Aug. 31. On the following day, Linda and her sister, Thelma Tingle Gray, were fatally injured in a traffic accident in Henderson County, Tenn. We extend our deepest condolences to the family.

     Work is progressing at the construction sight of the LG&E Generating Station at Wise’s Landing.

    Trimble County Raider football team won their opening game for the 1982-83 season over the Wildcats of Henry County by a final score of 14-8.
    Hardy Creek Bridge has been refloored and it stands sturdy for the occasional wild antics of the creek.

    Bedford Baptist Church had a picnic last Sunday at the Trimble County Recreational Park.
