    We live in disposable days: get it, use it, throw it away. With eyes glued to screens all day, we fail to see life as it is and was, beyond the digital world. We miss meaningful lessons others may leave behind. Unseen, these bits of history disappear without a trace.

    30 Years Ago (Sept. 16, 1982)
    Trimble County Superintendent, Dr. Bill Stout hand carried a proposal to the State Board of Education in Frankfort, Tuesday. The proposal outlines the local board’s plans to eliminate the deficit in their 1981-1982 budget.

    The Milton Town Board met and it was announced that the Milton Fire Department had passed its inspection by the Insurance Services Office of Kentucky. The new rating will enable Milton residents within a five-mile radius by road to have their homeowners insurance premiums reduced.

    30 Years Ago (Sept. 9, 1982)

     Thursday’s storm broke off trees, flattened tobacco in the fields and demolished a tobacco barn on the Allen Willis farm on Pecks Pike.

    Complaints made by citizens concerning the sewer work, in particular the settling of dust; the noise and drainage after excavations were done.

    Marlena Jean Smith, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Smith is now home. Marlena was born July 30, but weighed only 3 lbs. and 14 ounces. Now at 5 lbs. she is a hefty enough to leave the hospital.

  • A bittersweet story of lost &...

    Editor’s Note: Linda Webster approached me two weeks ago inquiring of my interest in a news tip. She completed this story on Friday, Aug. 31. On the following day, Linda and her sister, Thelma Tingle Gray, were fatally injured in a traffic accident in Henderson County, Tenn. We extend our deepest condolences to the family.

    30 Years Ago (Sept. 2, 1982)
     Work is progressing at the construction sight of the LG&E Generating Station at Wise’s Landing.

    Trimble County Raider football team won their opening game for the 1982-83 season over the Wildcats of Henry County by a final score of 14-8.
    Hardy Creek Bridge has been refloored and it stands sturdy for the occasional wild antics of the creek.

    Bedford Baptist Church had a picnic last Sunday at the Trimble County Recreational Park.

    Signature HealthCARE of TC named a...

    Ask Signature HealthCARE of Trimble County Administrator Mark Witt about his facility and he’ll quickly tell you the Bedford facility is a “gem in Trimble County.” During a recent interview Witt extended an invitation to the community at large to visit the facility, “look how far we’ve come and celebrate our success together.”

    Signature HealthCARE has come a long way in the last three to four years from almost being shut down by the state to now being recognized as a Five Star Facility by the federal government, Witt said.

    Trimble County Fiscal Court met in a special session for the second reading of the Trimble Building Ordinance.

    New rules for the Milton water works are being discussed and will be handed to Donnie Oakley, who is charge of the maintenance for the water company. They do not have to be approved by the Public Service Commission as they furnish their own water.

    30 Years Ago (Aug. 5, 1982)
    Bedford residents were shocked Saturday morning, July 31, 1982, when a two-truck crash just outside of Bedford took the life of Michael W. Schmidt, 28, Bedford. Steven Lee Taylor, 22, Bedford, driver of the other vehicle, sustained substantial injuries and was taken to the King’s Daughters’ Hospital in Madison by the Trimble County Rescue Squad.

    Trimble County Recreational Park on Highway 421N is a huge success judging by appearance. Day and night this summer you can find a crowd enjoying the activities whether it is tennis, softball or just a picnic. “This has been a good thing for the county,” Troy Dean, Park Superintendent stated. “It’s a good thing for the kids, just look around.”
