  • Oldham attorney lends support to Baxter for Commonwealth Atty.

    Editor:

In the Sept. 27 edition of The Oldham Era, a candidate for Commonwealth Attorney ran an ad regarding local attorneys’ support of Courtney Baxter for Commonwealth Attorney. The candidate asks, in his ad, “What do they expect to receive in return?” As past-president and 30-year member of the local bar association, the former head of the Public Defenders Office, contributing member of the committee that wrote the local rules for civil and criminal practice, and Courtney Baxter supporter, I can answer that question.

  • Adkins supporter views 4th Congressional race

    Editor:

The decision you make on who will represent us from the 4th Congressional District is very, very important. Bill Adkins is for 100 percent of the 4th and Kentucky. His opponent, Thomas Massie, is for special interest throughout the U.S. and ignoring you and me.

I have checked both web sites. Bill Adkins’ top priorities listed are to fight for jobs, seniors, the middle class and veterans. Thomas Massie wants to cut everything (even funding for libraries) and says nothing about seniors, the middle class or veterans.

  • Writer throws support behind Justice Scott

    Editor:

I am worried about the state of our nation. I am fearful for my childrens' future. Every day “pop culture” mocks our country’s history and the values America was founded on. News organizations, “think tanks” and the ivory towers of America’s universities are asking “is the constitution still relevant?” Why is this happening? It is a leadership problem.

  • Can we be angry with God?

Here’s a question for you: Is it wrong to be angry with God?

Most of us who are afraid of lightning bolts frying our faces off or earthquakes rattling our brains and opening the earth to swallow us whole would probably say yes.

God is God and Creator and we are very much not God. That said, can we be honest? Sometimes God does stuff — or doesn’t do stuff — that ticks us off.

  • Lady Raiders deserve better in postseason play

Another stellar season for the Trimble County Lady Raiders has come to an abrupt, premature end at the hands of a strong team of giants from Oldham County.

  • Grace defined, tattoo designed

If I had to choose just one favorite book of the Bible, I would choose Romans, chock full of theology, which I love.

And if I had to choose just one favorite chapter in all of Romans, hands down it would be chapter 8.

And if I could choose only one verse in chapter 8 to tattoo across my shoulder, it has to be verse 1: “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”

  • Family appreciates birthday celebrants

    Editor:

Thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone who made Charles Lindberg Taylor’s 80th birthday celebration a great success. It is one he will never forget and it is all because of people like you that had a part in any way.

You will never be forgotten. May God bless each and every one of you!
