  • Congrats to scholars

    To the editor,

    Every year the Governor’s Scholars Program is open to any school in Kentucky. For the past two years, Trimble County High School has had five students each year participate in the program. Each year the students applying have to fill out a lengthy application including extra-curricular activities, ACT score, and an essay. This year the program had budget cuts, making the program harder to get accepted in to.

  • To the editor,

    What ever happened to enjoying a small town parade and letting the kids have fun outside while you catch up with friends? In a time when everything seems so hectic, kids are glued to the computer and the price of gas is limiting our ability to have fun, it’s time to take a step back and enjoy ourselves and this great community.

    We have the perfect opportunity for that. The Trimble County High School Raider football team is hosting their annual Midnight Madness Saturday, August 23.

  • Searching for Class of 1988

    To the editor,

    Members of the Trimble County High School class of 1988 will host a reunion planning meeting Sunday, Aug. 24. The meeting will begin at 1 p.m. at Milton Fire Department Station #2 on Hwy. 421 North near the Hwy. 1226 intersection.

    All alumni are welcome and are encouraged to bring lots of ideas.

  • 'Welcome Bag' donors helped make good memories of Carrollton

    On behalf of the Carrollton/Carroll County Tourism Office, I would like to thank those who contributed to the “Welcome Bag” items distributed to members and competitors at the National Bass Anglers Association fishing tournament May 13-17 at Point Park in Carrollton.

    Because of your generosity, visitors from outside our community received a warm hometown welcome and fond memories. Word of mouth goes a long way in promoting our community, and your support helps to ensure that Carroll County is a place that they will want to visit again and again.

  • Stranded senior hiking group says 'thank you'

    Saturday evening, July 26, around 7 p.m., two tour buses were driving back to Louisville on I-71 South after a visit to Cincinnati’s Union Terminal Museum. On the way, the second bus began leaking antifreeze and had to stop just past Exit 44 at Carrollton. The passengers were a group of physically fit senior citizens, all members of the Second Saturday Serenity Hiking Club sponsored by Unity Church of Louisville.

  • Time to make sure teens know drinking isn’t OK

    It is summertime, and your teens may have more free time on their hands. Most of our teens are making healthy choices this summer – like not drinking alcohol.

    Unfortunately, there are many who do choose to drink. Most young people who start drinking before age 21 do so when they are about 13-14 years old. That is why parents and all adults should send a strong message that underage drinking is not OK.
