  • Thanks for coming home

    To the editor,

The Milton Elementary School PTO would like to thank everyone who took part in making our “Homecoming” Fish Fry on Oct. 18 a success. We truly appreciate all those who volunteered their time and financial support. A big thank you to all the individuals and businesses in Trimble County and the surrounding communities who donated money and items for the annual auction.

  • Food donations needed now more than ever

    Editor:

I’m sure it’s no surprise to any of you that these are troubled times – global financial upheaval, a stagnant national economy, job losses and general unrest.

With this combination of issues, it’s easy to understand the predicament some organizations such as our local food bank/pantry can face. Demand for food from the pantry has risen, just as everyone in the community is finding it more expensive to keep their own pantry shelves stocked.

  • Project highlights need for planning, zoning in Carroll Co.

The liquid asphalt storage facility on the drawing board for development just south of Prestonville could very well be the “poster child” for why we need planning and zoning in Carroll County.

Yes, we said that nasty word: Zoning. We know – there are those property owners who don’t want anyone saying what they can or can’t do with their property, what they can build on it, or where and how to build it.

  • Where to find candidate facts in election where truth seems optional

OK. You don’t need me to tell you that the Nov. 4 elections are vastly important this time around.

Our country is in a scary place right now, with banks folding left and right, and Congress in the midst of hammering out a plan to stabilize Wall Street as it bleeds out in front of our eyes.

So, I’m going to take this time to provide some good information for those of you (and I hope that’s all of you) preparing to vote.

  • Fall Brawl organizers thank fans, volunteers

    Editor:

The Fall Brawl Demolition Derby at the Carroll County Fairgrounds has again come and gone.

We would like to say thank you to the greatly dedicated fans, Westside Fire Department, Bobby Couch and Wayne Knight for Bobcats, Clay Baker and his guys for help with cars, parts. All the people officiating and judging and anyone else we missed.

  • Voters: Boot McConnell, put Lunsford in Senate

    Editor:

It is not for me to presume to tell anyone how they should vote. But I have made up my mind, and will take this opportunity to express my personal thoughts.

In the U.S. Senate race, I note that Bruce Lunsford has three times visited Carrollton and met a lot of people here. In the 24 years that Mitch McConnell has been in the Senate, I never recall him visiting our county.

  • City’s code enforcement must be more accurate

    Editor:

We have a concern about the City of Carrollton’s code enforcement ordinance. A few days ago Mr. Zook, from the city office came to our house saying that we had some tires in the back of our garage that needed to be picked up.
