  • Reader ‘applauds’ Magistrate Hamilton

    I’m writing in regards to the winery. I totally agree with Nolan Hamilton. I feel the county made a big mistake when they voted to allow a winery in the county. Since this has already happened I feel the least we can do is not allow it to be sold on Sunday. Just this past week we had a motorcycle fatality in Milton. We are told alcohol may have played a part. Why are we encouraging this type of action by allowing alcohol to be sold in the county?  I applaud Mr. Hamilton for taking a stand. We need more commissioners like him.

  • Thanks to Magistrate Hamilton

    I want to thank Magistrate Nolan Hamilton for the stand he took against the Trimble County ordinance concerning the sale of wine on Sunday. I appreciate that Nolan has values he is not afraid to stand by, even when he is in the minority.

    Most of us have only heard the stories of when Trimble County was “wet” and the problems it created, especially for law enforcement. The presence of the winery is the first step that could lead to our county returning to those darker days.

  • Milton resident urges action be taken on deadly U.S. 421 curve

    I am writing about an area on Hwy 421 in Milton that is dangerous and deadly. On the curve in the 9900 block, there were five accidents the past week with several injuries and one fatality. This is not just this past week that has been a problem. In the 14 years we have lived here, we have seen three deaths and more accidents than we can count. Many of the accidents are not listed in the Kentucky State Statistics as they are able to leave without assistance from the legal system.

  • Phil Ransdell rites a ‘wonderful sendoff’

    It was a beautiful autumn day ideal for a funeral and a burial in a remote countryside location.  We noted attendance was all close relatives.  Since the cemetery was located not too far from Campbellsburg where our farm is, we elected to be one of the ten vehicles in the funeral procession from Bedford.

  • Bedford city officials planning Thanksgiving meal for community

    Last week my husband and I were sitting at home talking about the upcoming holidays. We thought how nice it would be to have a community Thanksgiving at the community center for everyone who either could not afford dinner or was alone and had no one to spend the day with.

    On Monday I went in to work and wrote on my calendar on Tuesday, Nov. 22, “Community Thanksgiving.” I had not said anything to anyone about this.

  • Appreciation expressed for success of reunion

    We would like to thank everyone who came and brought delicious food to the Farmhouse Reunion. Thanks to everyone who helped us get it all together. A special thanks to the Band for the great music. We had a wonderful night.

    We hope the time spent with us Saturday night helped you relax for a little while to enjoy each other, the delicious food and great music.

  • LG&E neighbor concerned over fly-ash landfill plans

    For the last 24 years, my family and I have lived in a beautiful country setting next to land owned by LG&E. After doing nothing to their land for all this time, LG&E has submitted an application for a permit to construct a fly ash landfill directly across from our home, in which I have a state-certified day care.
