  • Exercise restores vitality, rejuvenation

    I had a client named Frances who was always tired. She came to me because she had lost her zest for living and seemed to just drag through every day.
    I asked what used to bring her happiness and relaxation; she replied, without hesitation, music.
    So, she agreed to use music and movement to help improve her vitality. I put on some flowing mood music with wind instruments and told her to slow her breathing – inhaling and exhaling gently to relax to the rhythm of the music.

  • FEBRUARY: EARTHQUAKE AWARENESS MONTH

    Earthquakes that occur in the New Madrid fault zone are potential threats to portions of seven U.S. states – Kentucky, Indiana, Tennessee, Illinois, Arkansas and Missouri.
    In Kentucky, the fault lies in Western Kentucky, crossing the Ohio River in two places.
    During a major earthquake, you may hear roaring or a rumbling sound that gradually grows louder. You may feel a rolling sensation that starts out gently and, within seconds, becomes violent.

  • Learning to let go allows woman to find true love

    I have an inspiring story about a very unhappy young woman who was one of my clients.
    Linda’s depression resulted from the break-up with her boyfriend months earlier. She had not been able to pick up the pieces and move on.
    Her thoughts kept returning to what she had lost and what she had done wrong. Mike, her ex, refused to talk to Linda, and he had actually started a serious relationship with Betty. It was up to Linda to work on building a path to her future.

  • Senate considers several bills in 2011

    Usually, the first week of the short legislative session is an organizational week, when the two parties elect their leadership.  This year was different. When we announced the Senate Majority legislative agenda in December, we committed to move aggressively on passing legislation regarding job creation, education, and transparent and responsive government.  With the passage of these bills, the “Agenda for Prosperity,” very few can say we didn’t deliver on that promise this first week.

  • Organization part one of legislative session

    At the start of January, there are two things that can always be counted on: It will take at least two weeks to write the new year correctly on such things as checks, and the General Assembly will return to the Frankfort to begin a new legislative session.
    That got under way this past week, when I and the other just-elected or re-elected members of the General Assembly were sworn in and the House and Senate leaders formally chosen.

  • Farming remains Kentucky’s strong suit

    Although the economy has weathered some of its toughest years since the Great Depression, there has been one bright spot for Kentucky: Agriculture.
    The new year, in fact, may just bring a new record with it.
    If all goes well, farm receipts could top $5 billion in 2011, or a billion dollars more than just several years ago.

  • Senate sets agenda for 2011 short 
legislative session

    The Senate Majority gathered Dec. 9-10 to discuss the upcoming session and lay out legislative priorities. The short session is just 30 days long, so we have to make the most of it and respond to the issues we heard from voters in the fall.
    What I heard was a resounding rejection of government overreach. People demand transparent government that is efficient and fosters job growth. So, the Senate Majority announced an “Agenda for Prosperity” that tackles these and other issues.

  • Kentucky’s fourth Constitution stands test of time

    Kentucky officially broke away from Virginia in 1792 to become the 15th state to join the Union. The first order of business was to do what the country, itself, had done just several years earlier: Write a Constitution.
    It was in Danville, not Frankfort, where the state’s leaders gathered to write that first foundation of our state govern-ment. Kentucky replaced that document twice in the next 90 years. In 1891, the current and fourth Consititution was approved by voters.
