Sprinkles began to trickle as a crowd of young and old alike gathered for the lighting of the Trimble County Courthouse Square Friday night. By the time the festivities had begun a heavy rain began to pour forcing the choristers of Trimble County’s elementary schools, under the direction of Melissa Staley, inside the front doors of the courthouse to entertain with spirited holiday music. Trimble County Judge-Executive Jerry Powell welcomed the crowd, many of whom had brought umbrellas for protection from the rain. Chaplain Nathan Marrs of Signature Healthcare of Trimble County read the Christmas story from the second chapter of Luke’s Gospel and led the gathering in prayer. Trimble County Circuit Clerk Stacy Bruner led the countdown and suddenly the square was ablaze with lights. The City of Bedford, Trimble County Fiscal Court, Signature Healthcare and the Bedford Rotary Club are sponsors of this year's Light Up Bedford.
