  • Milton firefighters reopen station

    The weather was right-low 80’s, breeze blowing, blue skies with white fluffy clouds. Milton Fire House Station No. 2 held an open house Saturday, Aug. 11 from 11a.m. until 5 p.m. But, amongst the celebration was an umbrella of sadness for they had lost one of their own the night before in a fatal motorcycle accident.

  • 23rd Annual Bedford Bash is Friday at courthouse

    The 23rd Annual Bedford Bash will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. this Friday, Aug. 17th.

    Entertainment gets underway at 6:30 p.m. with the Trimble County High School Band and Trimble County cheerleaders performing. Popular local band Young Country will perform starting at 8 p.m. In the event of rain the band will perform inside at the Bedford Volunteer Fire Department.

  • County okayed tree removal in courthouse lawn

    Four large shade trees were removed from the Trimble County Courthouse lawn last week on the orders of Trimble County Fiscal Court. During their July 16 meeting the county government body unanimously approved the tree removal on the recommendation of magistrate Kirby Melvin. Craig Daniels gave him a price

    “If you look out there there’s a bunch of dead limbs—I mean a barrel of them—and Mother Nature can have some bad accidents sometimes,” Melvin said. He gave prices quoted by Craig Daniels as follows:

  • County road crew praised for parking facility at TC Park

    Trimble County Judge-Executive Randy Stevens had high praise during the July 16 meeting of Trimble County Fiscal Court for the “really nice parking lot that our road crew put in” at the Trimble County Park.

    The new parking facility, which was completed in time for use during the recent Trimble County Fair, is seen in this aerial view taken last week by local photographer Jim Pirtle.

  • Birthplace gone but not forgotten

    The house shown above was exactly 100 years old when it was torn down and replaced with a U.S. Steel house in 1960. The date of construction was burned into the center gable. Duper Craig of Carrollton saved much of the poplar lumber for his use later on. The leftover debris was then burned.

  • New Christian radio station joins airwaves, transmits from Trimble

    Trimble County is the point of origin for the broadcast signal of a new radio station that joined the airwaves yesterday.

    Good Shepherd Radio, Inc., based in Columbus, Ind., has added WHMO, located at 91.1 on the FM dial, to the company’s family of southern gospel broadcast properties. Although transmission facilities are in Trimble County and programming will be generated in Columbus, the station’s identity will be as a Madison radio station, joining WORX 96.7 FM, WXGO 1270 AM and WIKI 95.3 FM.
