  • New shelter could be built, operational by July 1

    Officials from Henry and Trimble counties are preparing to enter an interlocal agreement to move forward a project to build an animal shelter.
    Approval of the agreement was on the agenda for Henry County’s Fiscal Court meeting after deadline Tuesday.
    Local officials learned at the end of December that Louisville-based Kentucky Humane Society had decided not to renew its contracts with the two counties.

  • Madison man, 23, jumps to death from bridge

    MADISON, Ind. – A 23-year-old man leapt from the Milton-Madison Bridge to his death at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 12.
    Madison Police Chief Yancy Denning said James T. Taulbee of Madison stopped his car on the bridge, got out of his car and jumped over the railing. The bridge is 95 feet above the Ohio River.
    Denning said an onlooker who called 911 reportedly tried to stop Taulbee, but could not get to the man in time.

  • Fiscal Court OKs voting machine bid

    In a special meeting Monday, Trimble County Fiscal Court
    approved a $71,800 bid from Harp Enterprises to supply the county with 15 paper-ballot scanning machines and 13 compatible direct-reading electronic voting machines, which will be used by county voters in the May Primary. Harp was the sole bidder.
    The package also contains a desktop PC and a laptop PC and other peripherals, as well as maintenance and preparation for each election. No additional maintenance fees are involved.

  • KHS to end contracts with Henry, Trimble

    The Trimble Banner
    A decision by Kentucky Humane Society in late December not to renew its contracts with Trimble and Henry counties has left both entities in a lurch.
    In letters sent to Trimble Judge-Executive Randy Stevens and Henry Judge-Executive John Logan Brent, the Louisville-based KHS said it would no longer operate the Eminence shelter, nor would it provide animal-control services in the two counties once the contracts expire June 30.

    Gannon, project manager for Walsh Construction, said the company is required to hire laborers, carpenters, iron workers and operating engineers through local union halls.

    The Peregrine falcon nesting box situated underneath the deck of the Milton-Madison Bridge last week was relocated from a pier in the middle of the river to Pier 5, the one closest to the Indiana side.
