Snow, rain heat and the gloom of night are nothing compared to the hazards mail carriers face on the job these days.
Bedford resident Bob Webb said he’s been bitten by dogs, attacked by a rooster and even shot at during the 32 years he carried mail for the Bedford Post Office. Webb retired from that job Friday, Dec. 3, amongst friends and co-workers who honored him with an open house at the post office.
Oddly, it was the rooster that did the most damage. Lifting up his left pantleg, he showed several patches where the wounds have yet to heal.

Judge Karen Conrad last week upheld a motion to prevent the attorney for Marion “Frank” McCane to introduce information regarding a court case in Georgia,  in which similar charges were brought against another man by the minor who alleges McCane had sexually abused her.
McCane was indicted May 20 on 19 counts ranging from first-degree rape, sodomy and sexual abuse to second-degree sodomy. The charges stem from a complaint by the minor that he had been abusing her since September 2002, when she was 8 years old.

U.S. Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood will make another trip to Madison, Ind., next week on behalf of the Milton-Madison Bridge Project.
LaHood last visited in February to announce that the project had received $20 million in federal funding through the Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery grant program. The TIGER grant was provided as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, the economic stimulus program.
