KHS to end contracts with Henry, Trimble

A decision by Kentucky Humane Society in late December not to renew its contracts with Trimble and Henry counties has left both entities in a lurch.
In letters sent to Trimble Judge-Executive Randy Stevens and Henry Judge-Executive John Logan Brent, the Louisville-based KHS said it would no longer operate the Eminence shelter, nor would it provide animal-control services in the two counties once the contracts expire June 30.

Church, community mourn sudden loss of long-time organist

Silent and shrouded in black cloth, the organ at Mount Byrd Christian Church in Milton stood as a memorial to honor a central member of the congregation.
Billie Alyn Wright, 61, who had served as organist at the church since 1965, died from injuries sustained when she was struck by a car near her house in North Vernon, Ind., Tuesday, Jan. 11.

CAMPBELLSBURG, Ky. – The latest addition to the force at Kentucky State Police Post 5 in Campbellsburg loves motorcycles and horses, plays football and volleyball and was at the top of her class in marksmanship.
“I’m an adrenaline junkie, if there’s something going on I’ll play anything” Trooper Jennifer Johnson said, “which leads to getting hurt now and then. I’ve had plenty of broken bones.”

Late LG&E tax payment stymies county

Trimble County Sheriff Tim Coons told Fiscal Court on Monday that he is still awaiting payment for 2010 franchise taxes owed by LG&E’s Wise’s Landing generating plant.
Coons said the corporation’s taxes were due in November, but were late because LG&E disputed the amount owed. A state arbitrator determined the amount owed – a total of $856,000; LG&E has 30 days to remit payment, Coons said.
