  • County to seek legal advice on need for courthouse firearms ban

    A discussion over the need for an ordinance to ban firearms from the Trimble County Courthouse and other county-owned facilities consumed much of Fiscal Courth’s meeting March 21.

    The issue was raised in letters written to the county by Circuit Judge Karen Conrad and Trimble County Attorney Perry Arnold, whose review of Kentucky statutes revealed a surprising loophole.

  • BES students get tips on stranger safety

    Last Tuesday, students at Bedford Elementary School learned about preventing encounters with strangers and what to do if a person they do not know tries to take them.

    “The Child Connection Inc.,” is an independent, non-profit organization that actively searches for missing and exploited children throughout all of U.S.A. and Canada. TCC was founded in 1992 to aid and assist local law enforcement and other federal agencies in the recovery of missing children. TCC also acts as a liaison between law enforcement and parents.

  • Trimble agriculture students raising plants to market

    Area residents will have an opportunity this spring to purchase plants raised from seed by Trimble County High School agriculture students.

    “The students are starting plants from seed to grow in the greenhouse,” TCHS agriculture teacher Jo Ann Gripshover said. “They are watching them germinate, transplanting them to bigger pots or cell packs, and making hanging baskets. We are growing petunias, morning glories, marigolds, zinnias, etc., and some vegetables.”

  • Flood waters drown Milton City Park

    Portions of downtown Milton, mostly in and around City Park, were submerged with the Ohio River overflowed it's banks last week. The river crested Sunday, March 13, at 50.5 feet at Markland Dam, just a half-foot below flood stage. See photos for more on this story.

  • Commission studies plan for Milton marketing campaign

    Milton City Commissioners during their meeting Thursday reviewed a projected plan to market the city during the construction of the new span that will replace the 81-year-old Milton-Madison Bridge.

    The marketing campaign was developed by New West, LLC, a Louisville public relations firm hired by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet “to help us promote Milton,” according to Mayor Denny Jackson.

  • Couple arrested after alleged crime spree

    With the arrest of two people suspected of stealing mail from mailboxes in Trimble, Henry, Carroll and possibly more Kentucky counties, as well as counties in Indiana, law enforcement officials are now working to identify the couple’s victims during a crime spree that spanned several weeks.

    An investigation by the Kentucky State Police into a reported assault on a student at the Bedford Elementary School “resulted in two 11 year old juvenile males being cited for allegedly assaulting another juvenile male,” according to Trooper Michael Webb.
