  • King family reunion was well-attended, fun

    The King family held its 47th reunion on July 13, 56 family members turning out for the event. They came as far away as Greensburg, Ind., and Shepardsville Ky. Some were from Warsaw and Owenton, Ky. Many were from right here in Carrollton.

    There were stories told and old pictures to share of family history past. Many games were played and good old home cooking shared.

  • Back to the Past Bluegrass Bash at Butler Park this weekend

    Travel back to the past to keep bluegrass music in the future: Come out to the Bluegrass Bash this Friday, July 18, and Saturday, July 19, at General Butler State Resort Park.

    The annual “Back to the Past for the Future Bluegrass Bash” will take place at the new venue, near the Kentucky Veterans Memorial, for a second year, and the theme, again, is “A Tribute to our Veterans.”

    Fans are encouraged to  to bring items or letters to send to U.S. soldiers overseas.

  • City targets delinquent business licenses

    Some local businesses were on a list Tuesday to get a visit from Carrollton police officers.

    And the news wouldn’t be good.

    Starting yesterday, officers will be closing the doors of local businesses for failing to renew their city business licenses. Nineteen local businesses originally were on the list, but eight had paid up by press time Tuesday and two others had notified the city they are no longer in business.

    Twenty-one out-of-town businesses will be receiving similar notices.

  • Signups start this month for county youth soccer

    Carroll County Parks and Recreation will be having soccer sign-ups July 21 through August 1 for children 3-13 years old. Sign-ups will be 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday in the third-floor office in the Carroll County Courthouse, downtown Carrollton.

    Fees for the leagues are: children 5 and younger, $15; children in the four leagues for 6- through 13-year-olds, $25, plus $15 for each sibling.

  • Family still hopes for justice in C’ton woman’s ’07 death

    A year after a motorcycle accident took the life of a young woman and her unborn baby, the motorcycle driver, Bernard Kalep King, 25, has been arrested according to Shively Police Chief Ralph Miller.

    Peggy Ann Brandie Chadwell, 25, of Main Street, Carrollton, was a passenger on King’s bike and was killed July 2, 2007, when the bike crashed along Interstate 264, just inside the Shively city limits.

  • Fourth Carroll County Reads wrapped up at library

    When I was a kid, I loved to read. I remember spending dark, gloomy Saturdays reading books I’d taken out of the library at school, or our county library – to which I was a card-carrying member from a very early age.

    As an adult, I’m ashamed to say that I’m lucky to read more than one book a year.

    It’s my own fault, ultimately, for not taking the time to do it. The time is there, but the will doesn’t always follow.

    The market sells every Wednesday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on the front lawn of the Courthouse downtown and every Saturday morning from 8 a.m. to noon at Hometown on highway 227.

  • Trip to Calif. zoo will be dream come true for Conley, 9

    Kendall Conley, daughter of Mark and Cydney Conley of Carrollton, will be winging her way toward her wish at the San Diego Zoo during her Christmas vacation.

    She and her family found out this week that she has been granted a special behind-the-scenes tour of the famed zoo by the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

  • New school administrators hit the road to meet parents

    Superintendent Lisa James has lived and worked in Carroll County for most of her life, but she wants to get to know the students and their families a little better.

    To do so, she and the principals, as well as other teachers and administrators, will be taking “Carroll County Schools on the Road” to various communities throughout the county.
