  • NFL star Moss debuts racing team in Sparta

    SPARTA, Ky. – Having accomplished everything shy of winning the Super Bowl as a wide receiver of the New England Patriots, Randy Moss turned his attention to another form of competition Saturday.

    Moss, who bought a 50-percent share in Morgan-Dollar Motorsports several weeks ago, made his debut as a truck owner on July 19 at the Built Ford Tough 225 at Kentucky Speedway, accomplishing a dream.

    The debut marked the end of six months of hard work.

  • Deadline nears to get on November ballot for county races

    Carroll County public offices and the school system have lost hundreds of years of experience recently due to a decision made by the state legislature. The most recent official to tender her resignation is Carroll County Clerk Marketta Brock, who officially leaves office July 31.

  • Parents, students invited to TCMS 'Back to School Night'

    Trimble County Middle School invites students and their parents to “Back to School Night” Tuesday, Aug. 5. Students will have an opportunity to meet their teachers for the new school year and receive their schedules, course expectations, locker assignments, supply lists and enrollment forms.

    There will be orientation for incoming sixth-graders and new student at 6:30 p.m. in the gym. Orientation for returning seventh- and eighth-graders begins at 7 p.m.

  • Brock announces retirement

    When Marketta Brock retires on July 31, an era will close on the father/daughter team who have kept the records of Carroll County for more than 30 years.

    Brock grew up following her father, John Tilley, around the courthouse. Tilley entered public service first as county sheriff, then as judge-executive and later replaced Elmo Stark as county clerk in 1977.

  • City buys I.O.O.F. cemetery

    Following a decision last week to purchase the Bedford I.O.O.F. cemetery, city commissioners have begun considering related operational issues.

    The Bedford City Commission agreed during a special meeting June 16 to accept an offer in May from the International Order of Odd Fellows to buy the 60-year-old cemetery on the outskirts of town for $1.

  • DAR members trace history back to country's roots

    Carroll County is steeped with history: The original settlement of Port William (now Carrollton), for example, was founded back in the late 1700s – a few years after the American Revolution.

    But some local residents have family histories that go back even further, with ancestors they know who actually fought in the war for independence from England.

  • Sign-ups under way for youth sports, fund-raisers

    Children ages 6-14 are eligible to sign up for Yellow Jacket football.

    Sign-ups are 7-8 p.m. July 14-15 and 23-24 on the field behind Cartmell Elementary School.

  • 4-H shooting club thanks yard-sale volunteers

    We would like to thank the community for supporting the Carroll County 4-H Shooting Sports Club by donating items for the yard sale. We had a great selection and many shoppers.

  • Local Little Leaguer has big night watching all-stars at Slugger Field
