  • Bowlarama jamboree set for Saturday

    A middle school football jamboree and a digital photography class are joining forces Saturday, Aug. 16 for a first ever Bowlarama.

    Twelve middle school teams will invade Panther Field at the Carroll County High School complex and Tim Hendricks will be conducting a photography class using the football games as the subject matter.

  • Family business remains on “course” after 40 years

    As an employee of Madison, Indiana’s Clifty Creek power plant during the mid-1960s, Jerry Stark regularly overheard co-workers regaling others with golf stories. Though he, nor his wife Sharon, had ever taken a swing on the links, she said those tales encouraged the couple to transform 104 acres of Trimble County farmland into Cardinal Hills Golf Course. That was 40 years ago this month.

  • Moore saves Carrollton man from car fire; arrests made

    If you’re ever in a burning car, Larry Moore Jr., is the man you want nearby. Moore has rescued not one but two people from burning vehicles almost a decade apart.

    Moore was listening to his scanner at home on Lewis Road in Ghent on July 15 when he heard the call for a car on fire with someone trapped inside on Black Rock Road just outside of Ghent.

    Moore hopped in his car and according to Deputy Sheriff Jim Hamilton, was the first on the scene.

  • Carroll County Schools meets all No Child Left Behind Goals

    The Carroll County School District met all 13 of its Annual Measurable Objectives required under the federal No Child Left Behind Act.  

    Testing data from the spring 2008 state assessment released on Aug. 5 showed that the Carroll County School District is making adequate yearly progress.

  • Carrollton receives top Ky. award for regional project

    The City of Carrollton received the 2008 Spirit of Kentucky award, Tuesday, Aug. 5, at the 33rd annual Governor’s Local Issues Conference in Louisville for its role in the development of the Gallatin, Carroll, Henry and Owen County Regional Wastewater System.

    Mayor Dwight Louden, Judge Executive Harold “Shorty” Thomlinson, Fiscal Court and numerous others were there to accept the award from Gov. Steve Beshear and the Department for Local Government Commissioner Tony Wilder.

  • New superintendent has busy, but smooth, first day of school

    If Lisa James was nervous about how things would go on the first day of school in Carroll County, she didn’t show it.

    At just after 6:30 a.m. on Aug. 7, the new superintendent was already at her office getting ready to drive to each of the schools in the district to say hello to the teachers and staff and greet children as they entered the new school year.

  • Four seek three posts in special election

    Candidates in one of three special election races set for November will face opposition as Carroll County Democrats and Republican executive committees selected their slate of candidates this week.

    The race for District Three constable will be contested after Republicans Monday night nominated Forrest Poland and Democrats tapped Chris Crase as their candidate Friday night.

  • Many students picked up new skills with summer jobs

    For most adults, work is year-round. For high school students, it doesn’t necessarily have to be.  After all, Carroll County isn’t on a year-round school schedule. Many high school students chose to take on the challenge of a summer job.  They believe this experience will prepare them for life after high school, and the jobs come with the added perks of eliminating boredom and providing income.

  • KSP Highway enforcement gets results

    Traffic fatalities have been drastically reduced and drug seizures are on the increase in the district covered by the Kentucky State Police Post 5.

    Capt. Dean Hayes, commander of the post in Campbellsburg, says much of the credit for the improved statistics should go to troopers Rick Ellis and Dennis Hedger.

    Together, Ellis and Hedger make up the new “criminal patrol” team primarily assigned to the Interstate-71 corridor from Gallatin County to Oldham County.
