  • Searching for Class of 1988

    To the editor,

    Members of the Trimble County High School class of 1988 will host a reunion planning meeting Sunday, Aug. 24. The meeting will begin at 1 p.m. at Milton Fire Department Station #2 on Hwy. 421 North near the Hwy. 1226 intersection.

    All alumni are welcome and are encouraged to bring lots of ideas.

  • Computer simulation system provides real-life training

    In a cold dark room in the city office building, local law enforcement officers now have the opportunity to test their skills in a Firearms Training Simulator.

    The system, known by the acronym FATS, was discovered by Carroll County Jailer Mike Humphrey, who heard about it at a conference he attended earlier this year.

    He requested that the county receive one of the two simulators statewide. It is currently set up in a room across the hall from the Carrollton Police Department.

  • Chrysler sues to take over Carrollton dealership

    The Chrysler Corporation seized control of the Todd Nelson Chrysler Jeep Dodge dealership Monday after filing suit in Carroll County Circuit Court against the dealership and Nelson for default and breach of contract and seeking more than $2 million in missing funds.

  • Lady Panthers win season’s first conference match

    The Carroll County High School varsity volleyball team passed, set and spiked their way to victory in the first match of the season Tuesday, Aug. 12.

    The girls volleyball team played at Williamstown, winning the first game 25-11 and second game – and the match – 25-23.

    It was the Lady Panthers’ first step toward the team’s goal of taking the championship this year.

  • Film promotes Carroll County tourism

    Fog just evaporated and the river had a hint of blue to it, when Aaron Hutchings of the Ghent Media Center asked for the first take of two local actors in a tourism infommercial.

    Angela Franklin and Lonnie Crutcher were hosts in a short film that will be seen in local hotels touting everything Carrollton. Production with live actors began Saturday at Point Park, but the production team has been at it for weeks.

  • 'Welcome Bag' donors helped make good memories of Carrollton

    On behalf of the Carrollton/Carroll County Tourism Office, I would like to thank those who contributed to the “Welcome Bag” items distributed to members and competitors at the National Bass Anglers Association fishing tournament May 13-17 at Point Park in Carrollton.

  • Dow Corning recognized with state safety award

    Working one million hours without a lost time injury or illness is a distinction any company would be proud to acknowledge.

    Dow Corning Carrollton Site was recognized for that feat in a presentation from Mark Brown of the Governor’s Safety and Health office Tuesday afternoon.

    Dow Corning also received another mark of distinction Tuesday accepting a plaque from Aaron Keatley from the Department of Environmental Protection, welcoming them into the KY EXCEL program.

  • Court joins counties in suit against state policy

    Carroll County Fiscal Court passed a resolution Tuesday, Aug. 12, to join 119 counties in Kentucky that have filed a lawsuit against the state seeking changes in how the state pays for housing prisoners who face felony charges.

    State prisoners are housed in the Carroll County Regional Detention Center, which is self-supporting and relies on income from the state, and fees paid by local inmates, to operate.

  • Police allege man intended to shoot co-worker

    Officers with the Kentucky State Police, Trimble County Sheriff’s Department and Madison [Indiana] Police Department may have thwarted a man’s plan to shoot co-workers at a local construction site.

    Robert E. Gibson, 42, of Main Street in Madison, Ind., was arrested Thursday, Aug. 7 on two counts of terroristic threatening and lodged in the Carroll County Regional Detention Center.

  • School and apartments in Bedford burglarized

    A Bedford woman was arrested last week accused of burglarizing multiple homes.

    Kayla Danielle Purvis, 20, was arrested Aug. 8 and charged with two felony counts of second-degree burglary and several misdemeanors, including theft of services, third-degree criminal mischief, failure to notify address change and public intoxication by controlled substance.
