  • KU refinancing bonds for Ghent plant

    An attorney for Kentucky Utilities asked for the first reading of an ordinance authorizing the issue of environmental facilities revenue bonds not to exceed $77,947,405.

  • Chrysler granted possession of Nelson dealership

    Appearing in Carroll County Circuit Court without legal representation Monday, local dealership owner Todd Nelson seemed not to understand the procedings surrounding a move by Chrysler Financial Services to take over his business.

    In a decision by Circuit Judge Stephen L. Bates, Chrysler was granted a “writ of possession” for the dealership and property. Nelson, owner of Nelson Automotive Group, was ordered to surrender the dealership and all the inventory and other proerty to Chrysler.

  • Milton hilltop restaurant celebrates anniversary

    As other small family eateries are succumbing to financial difficulties, Our House Restaurant is preparing to celebrate five years serving home-cooked meals.

    “I think serving real food made here at the restaurant has kept us going while others have closed their doors,” owner Sherry Burkhardt said last week. “Not too many places have that anymore.”

  • Compassionate strangers help elderly man in need

    It’s a story that could have ended tragically, but ended with an elderly man getting to his family in Virginia, safe and sound.

    Louis Durrett, 78, of Louisville, was traveling to a relative’s home in Orange, Va., when his car overheated on Interstate 71. He got off the interstate at Carrollton and parked behind the Waffle House restaurant on State Hwy. 227, unsure what to do.

  • Progress announced on Milton-Madison bridge project

    A new bridge spanning the Ohio River between Milton, Ky., and Madison, Ind., is another step closer to fruition.

    Officials with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet and Indiana Department of Transportation announced yesterday, Aug. 26, that a "notice of intent" to proceed with the project was filed with the federal government Aug. 14, officially kicking off the project.

  • Lady Panthers take 3rd place in McCreary County tourney

    On Friday afternoon, Aug. 22, Carroll County High School students momentarily stopped their classworkfor  an announcement on the intercom: “All CCHS volleyball players, please report to the gym to leave for your tournament.”  

    With lots of “good luck” wishes from their peers, the team traveled four hours to McCreary Central High School Invitational Tournament.

  • Security, sidewalks on the minds of Bedford officials

    New sidewalks and contracted services were on the minds of Bedford city commissioners when the group met earlier this week.

    During their regularly scheduled meeting Aug. 18, commissioners voted unanimously to replace 367-ft. of sidewalk in the city. The project includes 100’ of concrete walkway along U.S. 42 from Luckett Ave. to the former Farmhouse Restaurant, 104’ on Victory Ave. from the Morgan Community Center to Church Street and 163’ running parallel with Hwy. 421 North at Bedford Stop ‘N Go.

  • Good-old-boy politics thriving in Carroll County

    Good-old-boy politics is alive and well in the Carroll County Democrat Executive Committee.  On Aug. 8, there were eight people who applied to be the Democrat candidate for constable in District 3.

    Of the eight candidates, two expressed having some degree of law enforcement training; a third had served a year as a police officer in northern Kentucky and spent several years as a military police officer with training in investigative police work.

  • Two months late, courthouse addition still not complete

    More than two months after the expected construction completion date, officials are still awaiting finishing touches to the Trimble County courthouse addition.

    During the Aug. 18 regular meeting of the Trimble County Fiscal Court, magistrates received an update on the project from architect Bing Ewen of DLZ, Inc.
