  • Making the band

    About 16 band members marched in the Thursday afternoon heat, in an abandoned parking lot behind Trimble County High School. Without their instruments, the group counted and paced in rhythm. It was a lesson in synchronicity taught by new leader, Matthew Leedy.

    The 23-year-old musician started as new band director for the school’s program in late July.

  • Jones: ‘Mileage’ will help young team improve

    The Carroll County cross country team traveled to Williamstown last week for its first race of the season, and tried to make a mark against some very good teams.

    Trimble County and Walton-Verona are top teams in the state and will challenge the Panthers every single week, according to Coach Jay Jones.

    “Our team is young but has really been putting in some great work this last month,” Jones said. “I am pleased with the way we raced down the stretch.”

  • Let's find ways to be part of the solution, not the problem

    OK. I had my say a couple weeks ago about Carrollton City Council and it’s inability to decide if code enforcement officer John Welch is not doing his job, or has too big a job for one person to handle.

    Any argument regarding the state of the city of Carrollton, in terms of nuisance properties, comes back to this question, it seems.

  • Celebrating the blues

    The threat of inclement weather may have kept some blues fans at bay Friday night, but overall, the 2008 Blues to the Point festival seemed to be a success.

    Volunteer Nicole Dunn said the event drew at least 500 people on Saturday.

    Throughout the event, headliners performed under the pavilion, with the Ohio River as a backdrop. On Friday, Frankfort’s Blackstone, kicked things off with its heavy “grunge”-influenced blues/rock amalgam.

  • Lady Panthers net 2nd at ‘All A’ regional

    Even against the most difficult teams in the area, the Carroll County Lady Panther volleyball players put on their best game and find ways to improve.

    Building on a tough loss to North Oldham at home Tuesday, Sept. 2, the CCHS varsity team regrouped to beat Owen County on Sept. 3, and then take second place in the regional “All A” tournament Sept. 6 at Henry County.

  • CCHS golf teams in NCKC tourney

    Cardinal Hills Golf Course in Bedford was the site of last week’s North Central Kentucky Conference and All “A” girls and boys golf tournaments.

    Seven schools – Trimble, Gallatin, Owen, Henry and Carroll counties, along with Williamstown and Walton-Verona, participated. The girls played Aug. 27; the boys, Aug. 28.

    CCHS freshman Quincy Hogan competed individually, shooting an 87 on the 18-hole course and placing fifth in the tournament. She was named to the NCKC All-Conference team.

  • Perry, Willis recognized for work with Trooper Island camp

    Two Kentucky State Police troopers from Trimble County were honored recently for their support of Trooper Island.

    Trooper Island is a free camp for Kentucky children ages 10-12, offering activities such as volleyball, swimming, archery and marksmanship, as well as providing positive role models.

    For their contributions to the camp, Troopers Seth Willis received a Certificates of Appreciation; Trooper Chip Perry was named 2008 KSP Public Affairs Officer of the Year.

  • Thanks for a successful Bedford Bash

    I would like to address this letter to merchants, fellow business people and other individuals, as well.

    The 19th Annual Bedford Bash was a hit. We raised more than $500 for the needy kids' Christmas party through the sale of T-shirts. We gave away several prizes and had a great time. I have heard several positive comments on the band Young Country and on the 2nd Annual [Trimble County Raider] Car Show.  

    Congratulations to the Bedford Post Office for winning the window decorating contest.
