  • Organizers prepare for project's Blitz Day Oct. 25

    As fall approaches, most people work to get their homes ready for winter.

    But for many elderly people in Carroll County, preparing for winter is almost impossible.

    That’s where a project organized by the Carroll County Ministerial Association and staffed by volunteers can help.

    Project Comfort “Blitz Day,” this year set for Saturday, Oct. 25, offers weather-proofing and home repairs to seniors who have trouble paying for heat and other utilities.

  • Derbies bring money, tourism to county

    As I sat on a bleacher Oct. 11 at the Carroll County Fairgrounds around the demolition derby ring, I gazed out at the humongous crowd attending the 2008 Fall Brawl.

    I’ve attended several of these events in the past, but on Saturday we had enthusiasts from Southern Kentucky, Northern Ohio, Indiana and other surrounding states and surrounding counties. The comments made by these visitors were very complimentary to our promoters, the Fair Board, the county and the participants of the derby.

  • Trimble XC finds limited success at Owen County

    The Raider cross country team traveled to Owen County Oct. 14 to compete against student athletes from Owen and Henry counties, as well as Eminence Independent and Williamstown school districts.

    In the junior varsity 3K race, Trimble teams finished in first in the men and women’s divisions.

    Erin Gonterman was the first of 20 girls to cross the line, finishing in 10:51. Olivia Cooley, Kirsten Baird and Morgan Chappell rounded out the top 4.
