  • Kentucky Veterans Memorial expanding

    If you missed out on buying a personalized brick when the Kentucky Veterans Memorial was built at General Butler State Resort Park, you’ll soon have a second chance.

    The original bricks pave portions of the walkway to the monument and the ground in front of the large, free-standing stones that honor each branch of the military. They were sold to raise money for the project, and are engraved with the names of veterans.

    Jim Mosgrove and Shelby Bickers, two members of the memorial board, have made 165 more bricks available, and already have sold 10.

  • Food donations needed now more than ever

    I’m sure it’s no surprise to any of you that these are troubled times – global financial upheaval, a stagnant national economy, job losses and general unrest.  

    With this combination of issues, it’s easy to understand the predicament some organizations such as our local food bank/pantry can face. Demand for food from the pantry has risen, just as everyone in the community is finding it more expensive to keep their own pantry shelves stocked.

  • XC Raiders compete in regional racet

    The fierce competition between teams and individuals made for an exciting day at the Region 5 Cross Country Championship.

    Five teams, including three state-ranked, and 45 girls, seven of who are state-ranked, competed in the regional championship race Saturday, Nov. 8.

  • Haven offers hope to women facing unplanned pregnancy

    Pregnancy can be a wonderfully exciting time in a woman’s life, but it also can be stressful – especially if it wasn’t planned.

    A free clinic is now open to help area women who find themselves in such a predicament.

    Haven of Hope Pregnancy Services opened Monday, Nov. 3, at 537 Highland Ave., Carrollton, in the Fothergill Insurance building on the corner of Sixth Street.

  • Gonterman wins state open race as middle and elementary Runnin’ Raiders compete in state cross country championships

    Over 300 runners from 40 teams competed in each race making last weekend’s Kentucky State Middle and Elementary State Cross Country Championships worth seeing.

    The Runnin’ Raiders held their own as they competed in the 6th Grade and Under State Girls and Boys Championship, Middle School Boys State race, and Middle School Open Girls State race.

  • Academy aims to develop students into leaders

    About 150 Carroll County students learned and practiced leadership skills at the all-day Leadership Academy on Friday, Oct. 31, at Camp Kysoc.

    It was the first time students from both the middle and high schools attended together, according to instructional coaches Gerda Wise (CCMS) and Nancy Simpson (CCHS), who brought the students together with adult leaders from the schools and the community to teach teamwork, collaboration and how to depend on each other.

  • The votes are in

    Over 53-percent of Trimble County's registered voters went to the polls Tuesday, Nov. 4 to cast their ballots for U.S. President, members of Congress and local school board and city commission candidates.

    The McCain/Palin ticket proved a winner locally, with 2,239 votes in comparison to 1,484 for Obama/Biden.

  • Grant to upgrade Carroll County 911 system

    Carroll County will receive a $63,000 grant from the Kentucky Office of Homeland Security for improvements to the county’s 911 system.

    Randy Tharp, the county’s 911 supervisor and Carrollton’s fire chief, said the funds will be used to replace the system’s telephone controller. Installed with the rest of the system in 1994, Tharp said the controller is becoming obsolete.
