  • Paying homage to the Virgin

    Costumed street dancing, a mariachi band, a Spanish-language Mass and a dinner combined Thursday for a colorful celebration honoring the tradition of the Lady of Guadalupe.

    Glowing candles lighted the way for a huge procession of faithful, who walked around the block where their church, St. John Catholic Church, is located.

    The group was escorted by Carrollton Assistant Police Chief Steve Abbott, who also had also escorted a caravan of participants from Warsaw, Ky., to Carrollton.

  • ON THE RECORD

    A 23-year-old Carrollton man was arrested Dec. 10 after witnesses reported seeing him beat and choke a woman in the hallway of the Super 8 motel.

    Greg Carlton of Sixth Street was charged with one count of first-degree unlawful imprisonment, a Class D felony; fourth-degree assault with minor injury, a Class A misdemeanor; and was cited with alcohol intoxication in a public place. He is being lodged in the Carroll County Detention Center on a $5,000 cash bond.

  • Couple wins lots at Happy Hollow Resort

    Judy and Phillip Brock bought five raffle tickets several months ago, hoping to become the new owners of four lots being raffled at Happy Hollow Resort in Worthville, Ky.

    On Sunday, their wish came true, as Judy’s name was drawn by Carroll County Judge-Executive Harold “Shorty” Tomlinson and Magistrate Dean Miller.

    The Brocks, who live on East Prong Locust in Milton, aready own four lots across the street from the ones they won at the resort.

  • Tennis courts to be removed and parking improved at park

    Changes at the Trimble County Park were on the agenda at this week’s regular meeting of the Trimble County Fiscal Court.

    Last month, court members were notified that a federal grant to install new tennis courts at the park had been approved for the requested amount of $37,500. Magistrates had previously planned to convert the old courts, located on the south side of the Senior Citizens Center, to a parking lot only after the new courts were built; however that plan was changed at the Dec. 15 meeting.

  • KSP troopers and staff provide a very, merry Christmas

    Employees of Kentucky State Police Post 5 in Campbellsburg, and their family members, helped provide Christmas joy to two dozen children in the Post area last Saturday during the first annual Shop With A Trooper event. Beginning with a shopping trip to Walmart in Carrollton and ending with a pizza party and visits with Santa at Post, each child was given a Christmas gift they may have not otherwise enjoyed due to family hardships.

  • CCMH RN arrested for theft of drugs

    A registered nurse at Carroll County Memorial Hospital was arrested Dec. 10 for allegedly stealing controlled substances.

    Kentucky State Police have charged Rachael Moore, 32, of State Hwy. 36 East, Carrollton, with the theft of a controlled substance (a Class C felony), namely oxycodone and hydrocodone, from the hospital. Oxycodone and hydrocodone are opiate-based narcotics prescribed for pain relief.

    Moore was lodged in the Carroll County Detention Center until Dec. 12, when she was released on a $20,000 surety bond, according to CCDC logs.

  • Child’s illness leaves family in need

    Amanda and Trampus Craig never looked at their 10-month-old son’s stocky stature, chunky hands and thick eyebrows as anything unusual.

    “Amanda’s two daughters [by a previous relationship] were chubby babies. They had dark eyebrows,” said Amanda’s aunt Beverly Wingham. “Brinley looks a lot like they did as babies. No one thought anything about it.”

  • Two more charged with drug-trafficking

    Two Carroll County residents were indicted and arrested on trafficking in a controlled substance last week.

    Donald Howard, 54, of Martin Road, was indicted in November on charges of first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance, namely oxycodone, a Class C felony. Howard was indicted again in December for another count of the same crime, involving oxymorphone.
