  • Student creativity called upon for state’s 2011 Conservation Writing and Art Contests

    With a new school year now underway, the search for Kentucky’s finest youth writers and artists also begins. Students in grades 1-12 are encouraged to submit creative writing and artistic entries for the annual Conservation Writing and Art Contests sponsored by Kentucky Farm Bureau and the Kentucky Association of Conservation Districts.

    Trimble County’s “Runnin’ Raiders” cross country team has gotten off to a rapid start competing in three events since the season-opening event at the St. X Tiger Run on Aug. 27.

  • Trimble students graduate at Indiana Wesleyan University

    Two students from Trimble County were among the 1,400 students who received degrees during graduation ceremonies Aug. 13 at Indiana Wesleyan University’s main campus in Marion, Ind.

    Locals graduating were: Adam Benecke, 2527 Bells Ridge Road, Bedford, M.B.A., applied management; and Amy Liter, 3482 Liberty Road, Milton, M.B.A., applied management.

    Randal & Patricia Smith of Bedford, Ky., and Anita & John Nevils of Carrollton, Ky,, are pleased to announce the engagement and upcoming marriage of their daughter, Ashley Smith, to Justin Whipple, son of John & Lisa Whipple of Galeton, Pa., & Michelle & Chris Piaquadio of Fort Walton Beach, Fl.

    The bride-elect is a 2003 graduate of Trimble County High School and is employed at Gulf Coast Immediate Care Center.

    The groom is a 2000 graduate of Galeton High School in Pennsylvania, and is employed at Transfield Services.

  • Girls defeat Williamstown on links

    The Trimble County girls’ golf team defeated Williamstown with season’s best team score of 204 to Williamstown’s 227.

    Haley Baker posted her best round of the season with a 48 by sinking a 30 foot putt on hole 7.

    Brooke Huff shot a 51 and Charissa Huff and Kate Staples had solid rounds with a 52 and a 53.  Kaitlin Harmon shot a 69.  Trimble’s girls hosted Carroll County yesterday. Results were not available at press time..

  • Two Trimble golfers qualify for state meet

    On Thursday, Aug. 25, the Trimble County boys’ golf team participated in the All “A” Classic regional at Fairway Golf Course in Wheatley, Ky. The team placed third with a combined score of 331. Owen County took second with a 329 and Walton-Verona won the event with a score of 313 and their team will move on to the state finals on Saturday Sept. 10.

    The Trimble boys played well despite the fact that Walton and Owen use Fairway as their home course. Tanner Stark shot an 89, Craig Ward had his best 18-hole match with a 90 and Conner Beard shot a 92.
