  • The ‘rest’ of the story

    In the past few years, my husband and I have made it a tradition to eat Christmas dinner at a nearby inn that serves a humungous buffet.

    Without fail, every time we go I bemoan the fact that my stomach can’t accommodate large quantities of food.

    I’ve seen people eat stacks of pancakes the size of Rhode Island and whole sides of beef and think that maybe I can do that too, but I can’t.

  • The responsibility of choosing kindness

    I have had several clients lately that express a lack of kindness in their relationships at home and at work. This seems to be prevalent in our world of changing values. In her book The Business of Kindness, Olivia McIvor defines twelve kindness traits to demonstrate character building. These are as follows in three primary areas:

    •Kindness to oneself – authenticity, attitude, resilience, excellence

    •Kindness to one’s colleagues- trust, compassion, courage, friendship

  • Economic forecasts present challenges for lawmakers

    Over the last month or so, there have been some encouraging signs that state governments are inching away from the toughest economic crisis in decades.

    Combined, the states have trimmed a half-trillion dollars since 2007, but the days of cutting much more appear over, at least for now.  According to the National Conference of State Legislatures, new budgetary gaps “are practically non-existent.”

    30 Years Ago (Dec. 3, 1981)
     Approximately 1,000 users on the current water system in Milton has necessitated the construction of a 100,000 gallon standpipe and work is expected to commence on the project as soon as advertising procedures are finalized by Irene P. Long, attorney for the City of Milton.
    Leigh Etta Staples received All Tournament Team plaque in the Capital City Classic.
    Milton’s sewer system work is expected to commence in the spring.

  • Liters celebrate 50th anniversary

    David Liter and the former Barbara Kathleen Humphrey were married December 22nd, 1961 at Mt. Byrd Christian Church, where they are still members.

    They are the parents of Tammy (Jeff) Scott and Chris Liter. They are the grandparents of   Courtney and Chelsea Scott and Brooke and Brett Liter and Adrian Harmon. The Liters reside in Milton
