    GEAR UP is an acronym for Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Program. GEAR UP is a federally funded program that focuses on soft skills; for example: time management, study skills, college/career availability, budgeting, and much more. Students are guided to search education and career possibilities that are suited towards their personal interest.

    An unattended deer fawn curled up in tall grass. A litter of rabbits discovered alone in the backyard. A baby bird furiously flapping its wings but struggling to get off the ground.

    When I accepted the Trimble County High/Middle School track & field coaching position I had one assistant coach not returning. Therefore, I wanted to hire the best person for the team—someone who had a good connection with the athletes, a positive role model, excellent motivator, kind, caring, but could push them to do their best and always looking for a multitude of ways to improve their performance. Basically a super star coach!
