  • Speedway offers race day ride-alongs

    SPARTA, Ky. - Richard Petty Driving Experience is bringing Race Rides Saturday to Kentucky Speedway on Saturday, June 30 from 7-10 a.m., to offer fans the chance to experience stock car Ride-Alongs on NASCAR Sprint Cup Series “Quaker State 400” race day.

    Ride-Alongs will deliver an unforgettable, adrenaline-pumping thrill ride in a 600-horsepower race car at speeds as fast as 160 mph just hours before NASCAR Sprint Cup Series stars battle on the speedway’s 1.5-mile tri-oval.

    FRANKFORT, Ky. - Governor Steve Beshear today signed Senate Bill 38, a measure aimed to provide a career pathway process for secondary education in Kentucky. Through a more rigorous academic focus on career and technical education (CTE), the bill provides for a career-based program of study to make students’ high school years more relevant to their futures as working adults.

    FRANKFORT, Ky. - You bait a rod with a large minnow and let the offering dangle off the back of the boat as you enjoy a day of lazy floating on a canvas raft on your favorite reservoir, basking in the summer sun.

    You hear the sound of movement coming from the boat and flick your head around to see the rod bent over double, straining to hold the weight. You quickly board the boat and release the rod from its holder. You apply gentle pressure to embed the circle hook in the fish’s mouth.

    Quite a few years back, before Carole and I were married, I enjoyed growing hybrid tea roses. I am partial to roses with a deep musky rose fragrance, although I will have to admit I can enjoy a rose for its beauty alone. But to me, fragrance and beauty go hand-in-hand.  Roses can be a lot of work, but the effort is well worth it.

  • Kentucky state parks celebrate Kentucky Chautauqua program

    FRANKFORT, Ky. - The Kentucky Humanities Council invites you to help celebrate the 20th anniversary of its Kentucky Chautauqua program, which for two decades has helped tell Kentucky’s story through interesting dramatic characters.

    The council is joining with the Kentucky State Parks to help celebrate Aug. 1-5 with special programs at five parks, including General Butler State Resort Park in Carrollton.
